***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

I'm very impressed so far, this will be perfect for me!

My only gripe was the heat, it heated up quickly and got quite warm, how hot does yours get? I didn't expect no heat but it got a bit warm very quickly.

Would 1gb ram be enough for windows? (Although I've ran windows before on less so I'm sure it will be fine).

It gets warm first time around, after that it stays pretty cool actually.

I use 1GB for Windows that i ran NLite through, and its fine, boots up in id say 25ish seconds maybe.

How do you find the screen size?
Screen is fine, i was concerned it and the keyboard would be too small but they will work out just fine. Keyboard isn't great with my big bear hands, but screen i thought was good, any smaller and it would have been too small.

of course i will ;)

I couldn't live without one now, using it atm. Just dont use it asmuch as it deserves right now, and wont till september at least. Glad I got into the world of the eee though.

Should have just kept it, its a must have piece of kit :D.

I cant wait to get the 900 saw the 701 at the green shirted place and was blown away! 7 inch screen was impressive but need the 9" really.

Just need somewhere to pre-order a 900 one. common overclockers!

One UK online store are taking pre-orders for £400. Don't think asus have even stated an RRP, so they are probably just taking people's money.

According to this website the 900 is going to use the intel Atom.

Better not be £400 anyway as Asus have said $499 in the US, so that's about £250. I know we pay more over here, but in the case of the 700/701 the premium was pretty reasonnable I think ($400 and £220). I think they also said 399 euros which is just under £310. There's no chance I would pay £400 for one, not even with XP.

snap if its £400 then ill get a 701 and do the touchscreen mod, £400 is way way way to much.

£300 I could live with, £400 is taking the pee

Using the EEE pc right now, i'm finding the screen fine, easy to use and read websites. Although the keyboard will take some time getting used to with my big hands:D.

I am very happy with mine and anyone interested you won't be disappointed with it!

I cant use my main pc keyboard now, the smallness just seems "perfect" after a while. Its annoying!

i'm kind of stuck in 2 minds at the moment with this.

the Eee PC 701 would be ideal for me due to space restrictions on my bike as i travel to client sites often.

i even got to the point of making a VM PC with the same screen size to see if i could live with the limited screen size.
still deciding if i should wait for the 900 or just order a 701.

i managed to nlite a xp install down to 1.5 gb including office 2003, firefox and a couple other tools i use.
i'll also probably buy a 8gb or 16gb sdhc card.
