***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Finally got Vista to install this morning on my Eee 1000 on the second 30GB SSD. Got XP on the 8GB disk, so is all good :) Vista would only install from the SSD rather than from DVD, which was a bit odd. It gave the same install error as Win 7 beta did, although this doesn't like to be installed from Windows, so can't install that yet.

I bunged another 1GB module of memory in a few weeks ago, so generally Vista runs okay. Takes a bit of time to settle, but is good after that. Hopefully Win 7 will be even better, as it is quicker on my desktop.

The performance rating was better than I thought - cpu, hd and ram give good scores. Just let down by the integrated graphics, as you would expect.

I'm pleased with mine, although the SSD is slow (35mb/sec) but I only use it for the web etc so is okay I guess. Tempted to swap it out for a better one when prices drop later in the year.

Have to say that the Runcore SSD I bought (32GB) has revolutionised my little Eee 901 - granted, it has perhaps more significance with the 901 due to smaller/slower default SSD....

Vista Ultimate ran very well, especially once 2GB module installed in place of default 1GB one, but I have been bitten by the bug to try Windows 7 (RC) !

Installed last night, trouble-free and very quick (!), and now starting to chuck on other bits (Office 2007, AV and so on.....)

Early impressions, very pleased :D Really happy with this little machine, even though now on 4th OS (Linux > XP > Vista > 7)

I have an original 701 with a mini pci-e slot under the hood, can I install one of these runcore ssd's in that and will it use it instead of the 4GB to boot?

Yours actually has the mini pci-e slot? most of them have the space for it but don't actually have the hardware there for it.

The SSDs in mine is slow (35mb/sec for the small one and 30mb/sec for secondary). Does the Runcore SSD replace both or just the second drive? Can someone do a HD Tach test and see what the transfer rate is please?

Just got 1000HE and loving it. This also my first laptop as never like laptop and always wanting something small and portable for travelling :)

Just wondering in Realtek HD audio software, is there any Dolby room or headphone or something that emulate sound to 5.1? I think i saw it before and nothing there now?

Thanks

If its within 12 months, the place you bought it from should deal with it, although they will probably go to Asus anyway (assuming they send it for repair instead of replacement). Personally I'd just go direct to Asus.

Runcore SSD arrived. It is SO much quicker than the standard Asus supplied SSD. A pricey upgrade but well worth it imo. This with 2GB & Windows 7 beta is great. Much quicker than Vista on it.
