** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

I heard vista just occupys more ram instead of leaving it empty and unused which has to be a good thing!

Anyway superpi is a crap test of memory, my bad. Tried 733 and it wont load firefox without crashing even but superpi keeps on working fine :D

666/333 is stable in memtest with 2 black and 1 yellow slot. Whats your new ram rated at, maybe you dont need to overclock it much anyway?

With the kingston 5300 ram (alone) it would work at 800mhz in the yellow slots, in the black slots it would do about 350/700. Volts are about 2.1v

My new ram is same as my current ram, Crucial Ballistix PC5300 667Mhz. exactly the same.

Will adding 2x 512mb sticks so I have 3GB lower my CPU overclock too??

Most boards I looked at could only overclock the ram so I liked that this could underclock too.
I couldnt get my rig to reboot just now so I've put it back to 266, it had errors at 333 also but you should be better off with ram of the same type

I rubbed it off, I decided, I'm fine at 3.4Ghz, 1.55V idle and 1.47V load, its 8 hours orthos stable, I got it to 1.47V idle and 1.46V load, I could not push my chip any further than 3.4 still, so no need to do it. Maybe if I come accross a 2B pencil and a magnifying glass I'll try it again :p

Yeah tbh it didn't actually improve my oc, if anything I had to increase the vcore to get it orthos stable again, not sure if it's due to the mod though.

It just sounds geekier when I can say I've vmoded my mobo :p

Put it in your CV , I've got experience in vmoding mobo's :P

Hmm, maybe I should have a bash at 1.7v on the NB sometime if it makes a big difference. Haven't done so far due to not having any cooling on it.

Either way, Asus need to pull their finger out and release a new BIOS to replace that shoddy 0703 one.

I have two issues that you guys might be able to help me with.

Firstly I cannot update the Bios - just gives me an error in EZ Flash saying the ROM file is uncompatible - any thoughts

secondly, has anyone gotten the eSata port to work. I cant seem to work out how to enable it. I have installed the drivers etc but no joy.

I enabled the bios setting, loaded the drivers and basically followed the Asus guide but no joy. I dual boot and it's not appearing on either XP or Vista. Drive works ok through USB

I dont know if you still read this thread, but if you do, i need some advice if possible please.

I havent changed any of my settings in the bios since i was last here.

I keep trying to turn the clock down to make it more stable, since loading games and playing them last 20mins in vista.

Could you recommend me some more settings i could use to lower me from 3.2 to around 2.8/3.0?

I've tried lowering voltage and simply just lowering from 1600 to 1500 but it stays just as unstable.

Thanks

My first response would be to drop the multiplier to 7x and leave everything else as is. That will take you back to 2.8GHz.

How does the system crash?

Either i get a BSOD before it loads windows or it just locks completely and you have to force restart, that can be either in game or out.
