***The Official ATI Radeon HD 5850 / 5870 Reviews and Discussion Thread***

At the moment its the hype and because ATI beat Nvidia to the punch there charging a higher premium than they would normally do, hopefully Nvidia comes and actually tries to be competing in price then we will be seeing price drops.

I expect to see the 5870 to be dropping to around 200-250 dont see it ever dropping below 200 for a while when Nvidia starts releasing there DX11 cards if they ever do.

They're charging probably around £30 over at the moment if that, big deal. I won't go out on the lash this weekend then, infact I'm not anyway as I'll be too busy with my card

wow £300 for something thats getes owned by a -£200 card

i love how the 5870 looks i really do.

just should have been £190 max

to be fair though anti, we havent seen how it performs with dx11 games, it could well destroy every other card. We will just have to wait and see.

Why on earth not, most games shown infact no all were benched with DX10 and DX9 pathway games. So what isn't fair

Seriously

dx11 cards would have naturally better backwards compatibility with DX10 than a native DX10 card on its own, common sense really. Just like DX10 cards with DX9 games beating native DX9 cards.

I would like to see a DX11 card vs DX11 card before I personally decide to get one.

That is absoloute complete rubbish. The only advantage the 5870 has is the increased specification over the other cards.

Guys can we stop talking **** and at least get a clue before you post

use more power (who cares ) less features maybe (but will anyone notice any diff ) very easy to setup same as any other card.

look on e**y people are going mad selling there gtx285 , 4870x2 gtx295, just to get a 5870.

some bargains to be had.

First of all you're comparing a used card that probably won't have a warranty from eBay to a brand new one?

Less power... most people care, means less cost to run, less heat and no need to upgrade your PSU if you haven't got a 600w+ one from a good brand.

Features wise yes, of course you will if you want to run DX11 or 3 monitors at once. Setup was referring to xfire support in games, which has got better but still isn't perfect.

Hilarious this price whinging, its only £300, thats an utter bargain, especially when you consider that Nvidia's new cards are always £400/£500+, can guarantee if these were Nvidia cards at £500 a piece there'd be no price whinging, always the same, one rule for Nv.............

Memory bandwidth seems to be hurting these cards; 153 GB/sec is a pretty poor bump from the last gen, given that they doubled all the other performance parts.

There are GTX 285s on sale with higher RAM bandwidth than that. A 285 would need less, yet has more. That whole "Nvidia = smoother" meme doesn't seem so ridiculous now, does it? Hell, it's mathematically factual.

AMD skimped on a really major component in order to make more money for themselves. I, personally, respect that, though I'm not sure all the romantic imbeciles who've taken to berating Nvidia for their shady doings will feel the same.

Guys,

Arguing aside do you think my 620w Enermaz PSU is enough for the 5870 ?

Upgrading my PSU is gonna add at least £100 to the upgrade which why I've held off upgrading my GPU for ages now.

Enermax psu's are imo the number one psu manufacturers, a 620w will be fine, assuming it has two 6-pin pcie connectors

The cards are in no way at all bandwidth starved. This has been stated many times and was the reason for using a 256bit bus

Really, your confident about that !!!, if so I'm getting quite excited :D finally a new toy !!

Sweet thanks dude, yes I have already purchased another 6pin PCI-E connector.

One last question, this card should work with PCI-E 1.1 slots fine yes ?

They recommend at least a 600w with these cards and ATi always stay on the side of caution with recommendation and always recommend around 100w over what's needed.

This is just for the morons who will try and use the card with a 500w Q-Tec or something

They use around the same power as the 4890's don't they (or less), so id say a decent 500w+ would be fine, as long as they have decent 12v rails, mine will be powered by Corsair vx550w. :D

That PSU is more efficient than some 750w PSU's out there, you're going to be fine me lad :D
