If that happens i will drive to the warehouse and personaly collect them :)

These benchmarks were done on beta drivers, just wait 2 months and see how much of an improvement the 5870 can make.
I would not be surprised if it would end up, just about edging ahead of the 295 in 95% of scenarios.

Its all fun mate, jump in anytime ;) you do know im not stupid right lol
im just humerous, and i consider my self a comedian at heart i always make people laugh :D

*dont tell anyone i said that. :p

You're going to have a ridiculously fast setup, can't wait to see the lolage results from benchmarks

Plus 48xx series has inferior angle dependant anisotropic filtering, worse quality than NVidia infact.

This grinds my gears.

Does a slight difference in IQ really matter? I'm not sure about you, but I don't spend £300 on a graphics card to stare at still images looking for every little discrepancy.

I mean come on, i'd happily take the IQ from a 9800 Pro. It just doesn't matter.

[Edit] I just want to add that this is a rant at everyone who questions IQ, not you in particular! :p

When you spend 300 quid on GFX card surely IQ plays a massive factor?

Or it should do for most.

Not really, i'd rather have good image quality and exceptional performance, than good performance and exceptional IQ.

I just think there's a point at which IQ reaches diminishing returns.

Such negligable IQ improvements were used as a primary reason to buy ATI GPU's in previous years so I would say it matters to some yes.

It might not be a huge difference but it's an improvement none the less.

I don't think the issue is that AMD are selling a card for £300, but rather that in terms of value for money, the new cards can't live up to the standard set by the 485/4870.

Then you paid double the money for double the performance (going from a 3870 to a 4870); this time around you're paying double the money for ~60% more performance. If the 5870 was over 2 times faster than the 4870, I doubt people would be moaning about the price tag.

As it is, the 5870 seems like it would be better placed at £200.

You are forgetting the dollar exchange rate has changed from when it was $2 to the pound.

Launch price 4870 = $299
Launch price 5870 = $399

Price increase = 33%

If i accept your 60% gain for a moment then the card is a bargain. 33% more money for a 60% gain.

It's only the weak pound which is stopping these being £229 inc vat over here.

Nvidia cards used to have utter crap IQ, this is why I never bought Nvidia cards always went for ATI, it wasnt till the 8800GTX was released that image quality was on par with ATI's.

Saying this I've used a GTX295 and 4890 & I dont see any difference in in-game image.
