***The Official ATI Radeon HD 5850 / 5870 Reviews and Discussion Thread***

one card for now, one when prices drop a bit :D

Btw anyone think nV will bring something a lot faster even though they will probably be more expensive? or like the last gen with the 4870 just a tad behind the 280?>

Impressive. Better power consumption than hd 4890. 15w idle is ridiculous.

imo the next nvidia series will totally destroy 58** series, but it will be evil expensive.

Looking more at the 5850 'theory' benches, I mean IF they are basically accurate then holy ****, at my res 1680x1050 we are talking an average of 10 fps less than a 5870 but 100 quid cheaper.

Like i say I am v v keen to see proper 5850 reviews.

Oh, tha's a BARGAIN.

Does it come with a PhysX-powered teasmaid that supplys hot lapsang and rich teas every morning?

Ghost - I must bookmark that image for all the people who are recommending that peeps pick up a second hadn 4870x2 rather than a 5850/70 - the 4870x2 draws nearly as much power on idle as the 5870 does on full load

I'd buy one of these cards but I predict that after I install it I'd be sat at my pc thinking "now what?". I'll wait for some games methinks.

if it turns out to be 10% better or something i wouldn't call it totally destroying.. still we have to wait and see.

I am just guessing, unlike some others my technical knowledge on this is very limited, but reading reports of the poor nvidia yields due to engineers being over ambitious, you have to imagine that nvidia have some serious cards in the pipeline. But that inevitably they are are going to cost an arm and a leg.

Like i say thats just a guess, and it doesnt matter right now, the 5870 is out and that is the topic of the day, I said it earlier and i say it again bravo to oc for not gouging the early adopters

15W idle is very welcome, one of the strong things in its favour! :)
Can't wait for next-gen to hit 1W idle, ideally 0W, but I guess something has to stay on.

lol That will be me tomorrow night I should think, though I might keep busy finding ways to prove to myself I made the right decision buying one (almost bought 2!) when the buyers remorse starts to kick in, as it always does. :D

Can't believe how excited I am about getting a new GPU, feels a little like christmas when I was a kid lol...I'm not a nerd you know!! :o

If I'm honest I'm not sure I'll get kip tonight but only because my sleep pattern is already messed up ;)
