***The Official ATI Radeon HD 5850 / 5870 Reviews and Discussion Thread***

I prefer the look of the VTX but I have never heard of the company. Which is a shame as when spending £300 I like good manufacter support..

we all know nvidia is going to charge more for the gtx 3 series.

just look at the gtx 285's prices, for the cost of one of them im happy to get a 5850 for £200

from what i see the 5870 is about 10-12 percent faster than a 4890

compare that to price

more than double and its pure comedy .

id get a 4890 or a cheap 4870x2 if can. be found and save a shed load of cash

they should be priced at two hundred tops!

Fair point, but there is dx11, which although not a game changer at the moment will make a difference. When the games start to come out and we are all going Ahhh at all the extra eye candy, then it will make sense.

Im going to wait until the GT300 and then see where the land lies - it will also give the prices for the 5800's time to settle. They are high at the moment but will come down in a month or two. Then hopefully mobo's will be out with usb3 and sata III....

You have seriously seen wrong then!

why ive just looked at gaming benchmarks posted in this thread :confused:

ok work it out yourself

lets use a random link benchmark taken

guru 3d for instance

call of duty world at war 4aa 1920

5870 = 68 fps
4890 = 59 fps

hawx

5870 = 77 fps
4890 = 55 fps

crysis warhead

5870 = 45 fps
4890 = 30 fps

on the average game apart from a couple its about 15-20 percent sorry but still crappy value if you can consider you can get a 4890 for a shade over 120 and these are 300 !

i know its launch week + britain rip off :D:D which puts them another hundred on from where they should be.

All that hype for a few cards that only just about win over all. I wont be buying one as I feel nvidia will pull this one back at some point

and the prices are stupid for ATI cards

Just you wait till nVidia bring their new cards out then :D

call of duty world at war 4aa 1920

5870 = 68 fps
4890 = 59 fps = 15%

hawx

5870 = 77 fps
4890 = 55 fps = 40%

crysis warhead

5870 = 45 fps
4890 = 30 fps = 50%

on the average game apart from a couple its about 15-20 percent

How is that 15 to 20?

It's been priced to the bloody market - 285s sell for £250-£300+. 5870s stomp on 285s in almost every test, and by the looks of it, the 5850 won't be far behind. Thus, £200 - £300 is a saleable price.

Seriously, the 48xx series has been relatively cheap because they just couldn't really take the fight to the 285s - now that the 58xx can, what do you expect them to be priced at, £15 more than a 4890?

:rolleyes:

Not enough of a difference over my already highly overclocked (845core/1Ghz mem) 4870X2 to warrant a purchase. Lets see what the 4GB X2's and team green can bring to the table.

I hope they do have the 5850 in stock today. Showed when i ordered and i bet the money has gone off my card. Will not be happy if i dont get one and have to wait 5 days for the money to be refunded.
