***The Official ATI Radeon HD 5850 / 5870 Reviews and Discussion Thread***

I hope they do have the 5850 in stock today. Showed when i ordered and i bet the money has gone off my card. Will not be happy if i dont get one and have to wait 5 days for the money to be refunded.

my order status on the 5850 is:

Order Status: In our warehouse queue

but u would be first in the line to get one when they get more in.. why would u want a refund??

Well, I think the reviews are a little unfair comparing any single GPU card to a double in anything other than benchmarks for reference.
Ati has again done a great job ! Shame they cannot find someone to design a good quiet Cooler !

I think I will sit this one out and see if one of the partners comes up with a better exhaust out of the case cooler ;)

Fair play to OCUK, other prices are now starting to appear in the UK and OCUK are the cheapest and have stock. Good to see you have taken on board prior comments about launch prices.

seems odd as most reviews had crossfire results so were obviously working, wrong driver set, or dumb reviewer maybe, it is Tom's afterall.

To be fair, their prices are still high, but far less high than other stores who have gone nuts. Starting to wonder if the other stores with no stock till tomorrow, haven't just bought cards off OCUK and are just going to sell them for shipping + £10 extra over OCUK, and they hope OCUK will be out of stock in a day or two so people will pay the money. Some ludicrous prices around and yes, OCUK are the cheapest, good on them, could have been cheaper.

I'd more say OCUK are being the least bad, but thats a pretty big improvement, really have no idea what the other stores are playing at.

The 5870 is PCIexpress 2.1 only, won't work in a PCIexpress v2 or v1 board, you do have 2.1 don't you?

Toms tested it on an Asus Rampage II Extreme - which is PCI-E 2.0

I think PCI-E 2.1 means it can work with some of the extra features 3.0 will bring in the future, but not all of 3.0s feature set - so it would support, say, multicasting and internal error reporting on a PCI-e 3.0 bus, but not optimised buffer flush or the higher speeds possible. On a PCI-2.0 bus, one would assume it just doesn't do any of the above.

HTH.
