*** The Official ATI Radeon HD 6970 & 6950 Reviews, Discussion and Overclocking Thread ***

I guess the 580 is classed as vapourware because demand outsrips supply at it's current price. It looks unlikely that 6900 will have the same problems.

I have seen a few 580's knocking about at various retailers, even today. But yes there is a LOT more stock of the AMD cards, its just too bad they are not really better than anything that has come out in the past few months from either GPU vendor.

I was actually right, I just got handed miss information about what cards were benched..

Just for anyone calling this card a failure:

6970: £150 cheaper and within 5 - 10% of the GTX 580.
6950: £50 cheaper and within 5 - 10% of the GTX 570.
Less power, cooler, quieter too...

Not to mention probably superior Xfire scaling due to the massive lump of memory on each card.

Nvidia have to drop their prices to compete. End of.

GTX580 has at least 15% lead over HD6970.
GTX570 has at least 10% lead over HD6950.

That is assuming that you game at 1920x1200, at higher resolutions the gap tightens.

Xfire scaling is indeed very impressive, anyone who considers a multi-gpu setup should have a look at one of these cards.

Current 580 prices are due to lack of supply. I paid £365 for my first one and £342 for my second, which is way below £150 difference. Also 5-10% difference is underplaying the performance gap somewhat, although some individual games do come close to 580 performance. Also remember that GTX580's have massive overclocking headroom (mine do 930core with complete stability), and that 6970 overclocked will not even come close to that type of performance. Forget about comparing 6970 to GTX580, they are in different segments. 6990 will take on the 580 and win that battle.

The 6970 is obviously targeted at the 570 and both of these are very very equal in both performance and price. The 6950 is stonking good value and a great performance card for 1920x1200 or similar gaming resolutions.

AMD have to drop their 6970 to beat GTX570. NVidia do not have to drop 580 prices because they clearly sell at existing price levels and until 6990 arrives, nothing can touch it.

Ehh, we don't know how far the 69** cards can clock, we have no voltage adjustment software for it yet. Your for 580 is a great card but fact is the 6970 is not that much slower yet is considerably cheaper.
