So this game is 50% off on PS store at the moment. Is this game hard like Dark Souls? Do enemies respawn when you save progress like the other games? The difficulty and constant respawning it what put me off the others.

I think it is slightly easier than Dark Souls (Still challenging though). Enemies do respawn, but just like in DS once you are familiar with them most enemies are quite easy to deal with.

I am on my first playthrough at the moment. I probably bought the game at Christmas, but I have only really sunk my teeth into it in the last couple of weeks. Until you find the shortcut to the bridge, the beginning can be really brutal. I reached the unseen village last night, so I think I am close to the end. I havent done the nightmare realms or done any chalice dungeons yet though.

I have mostly stuck with the hunters axe. I use it two handed and have not really made use of the shoot/parry mechanism much at all. It feels almost OP for most standard enemies (obvioulsy I have fortified it and used apropriate gems). Most enemies can be taken in one or two strikes, so I have never really needed to bother with parrying. It also has a great range so you can normally hit them before they reach you.

I have found the game a fair bit easier than DS. It feels a bit more straightforward. I have fully explored most of the areas I been through and found all the shortcuts etc without needing to resort to guides. I don't know if that is partially because I have already played a Souls game? (Still haven't finished DS, I am stuck on the 4 kings.) I have definitely missed some of the NPC interactions. I accidently Killed that crow face woman, after helping her kill a hunter. I put my controller down to take a sip of coffee and it slipped and R2 smashed her, oops!

Absolutely get it, it's one of the best games of this generation so far imho.

It's different to Souls in that the game rewards being aggressive, you can regain your health when hit by counter attacking. You might find you prefer this sort of play style over Souls? But yes, enemies do respawn and the game mechanics are the same as Souls in that regard.

Either way, for 50% off it's well worth a punt.

I am playing DS1 at the mo and I can safely say that it is tougher than Bloodborne. As above it is tough at first but character and weapon stat levelling makes things move on a lot quicker than the older games.

But should you buy it? Hell yes!

I actually found Bloodborne tougher than Dark Souls. I feel like I'm deep into DS now (just finished Duke's Archives) and I haven't at any point felt overwhelmed, I've died plenty don't get me wrong that's the nature of the game but there hasn't been a point where I thought jeez this is ridiculously tough. I had that a few times with Bloodborne.

I think the regain health thing is one of the reasons I found bloodbourne easier than dark souls. Also I played dark souls aggressively, using a 2 handed sword and no shield, which probably made things a bit harder for me in dark souls but suits bloodbourne well.

You're miles ahead of me. Only just done Quelaag :)

To be fair they're all pretty solid games. I think they should all be experienced though if you can stand the stress of it all.

Can't get past central yarnham. Took me almost three hours to get to the wild dog in the corner with men around bonfire. Then got mauled and stabbed to death.

Shame you can't save, i think it'll take me a month to do a level at this rate.

You don't have to kill everyone, especially when you start out. It can be best to sneak or run past big mobs.

Well I think I need to do more of that sneaking around, I killed one monster with oil and Molotov cocktail. Then killed a few more dogs and men.

Got to the wolf beasts and got murdered.. such a shame it doesn't save anywhere, now I've got no oil left and will have to do it all again.

It's not meant to save. You're supposed to have to go back and try again. It's about levelling and grinding and fighting past the next obstacle. I got messed up by those wolves pretty hard at the start. By the end of the game they are nothing.

Early game, it's about learning the enemy's attacks and behaviour and picking your battles. You can literally run past every enemy in the game. Run past the Wolves if they're too strong for you.

Took me hours to get through the opening area on my first Character, on my second I just breezed through it and beat the boss without even levelling up.

Can't level up lol, got no bloodechoes now. Wolf got it.

lol yeah that sucks. When you go up the stairs to the wolves on the bridge there is another path opposite you. You can run down there into the house. Be careful in the house because it is dark and there are a few fairly simple to kill things in there but they can overwhelm you if you're not careful. Once you clear the house go back and pull the wolves down the stairs. They can't get through the door and you can take them out pretty safely from there. Or, as above, learn their patterns. Once you understand them they are pretty easy to kill.

I 2-handed weapon all the way through this game right up until the last boss, where you have to riposte.

When you've collected enough echoes and have cleared all the way to the wolves again it's decision time. Run back to spend them to level or try again. I spent 50+ hours on this and I reckon my first 10 were spent levelling HP and strength.

I wish I was in your shoes tbh. When you get past the 2 wolves things start to get really difficult lol

Pretty sure there's a shortcut through that house as well IIRC, means not having to clear all the way up to that point anymore.

Finally got my platinum on bloodborne original game. Didn't realise that the DLC was a separate thing so I could have had this months ago. Still haven't beaten that **** lawrence but I have started an NG to try and beat him on something other than NG++.

So picked this game up as it was recommenced, only problem is I am finding it extremely difficult! And in the frustrating sense, I just get mauled over time and time again, and just when I think ive cleared a group I got shot at and have to start allll over again lol

Any tips, Is it best to play it stealthily?

Also, I don't see a way to pause the game, but I guess that is part of the mechanics ??

You need a mix of stealth and aggressiveness. Though stealth is minor -- it's more about calculation and patience.

Learn how time parries ASAP. It'll make your life much easier. In the early game, though, just take it slow -- don't rush into fights. Keep your distance, let enemies go through their combo strings (usually 3 or 4 slashes/thrusts), then move in, give them a couple of whacks and get back out.

Rinse and repeat.

Also, you're correct: you can't pause the game.

I found it quite difficult at first too as I had come in straight off the back of Dark Souls 2 and 3, and was trying to play cautiously.

I quickly learned that a controlled aggression was a far better option and yes, parrying is very important. By the time I was around half way I'd mastered both the play style I was going for, and also parrying. Towards the end it actually became much easier, though I think that has something to do with the late game bosses being a breeze.

The old hunters though....now that was a challenge. Ludwig and Lawrence were absolute b*****ds at first, though I thoroughly enjoyed mastering both these fights. I was a little disappointed with Orphan Of Kos as I'd heard nightmare stories about him. He was downed on my second attempt, but parrying had a lot to do with that though.

So, yeah I'd agree an aggressive strategy is the way to go but with some degree of control, and a stealthy approach is possible in some areas. Even with a more aggressive strategy though, don't try and blaze through the game. I got over-confident a few times and got my ass handed to me as a result. Also, learning which weapon move set works better for you, and reinforcing said weapon & adding good gems will give you a decent advantage.

It was all about mastering the enemies and perseverance for me at first.

Keep an eye on how many blood echoes you need to level up and once you have that amount go back to the Hunter's Dream and use them.

It may be tempting to push on that little bit further but it's not worth it if it's at the expense of your character getting stronger and repeating sections isn't a bad idea.
