*** The Official BTCC Thread ***

It's a shame they didn't show the 3rd race podium The entire crowd booed Plato & shouted such things as "Cheat", "Cheater" and my personal favourite "you Dirty Cheating Illegitimate" :D

Plato's move was indeed very poor on many levels.

The thing is, one thing he said was right, Jackson did it to him in Race 1 at the same corner, punting him down the order which he never recovered that position, but nothing was done about that.. although in the last race, it was more the very deliberate pushing along the straight and being that bit more aggressive.. Sheddon was obviously much slower, and whilst he has ever right to defend, this is BTCC, not F1.

So for me, the stewards did the right thing, dropped him back behind sheddon... you don't have to look far to see how many people are 'punted' out the way during the races to see that largely it's what BTCC is all about, it just needs the stewards to intervene when it gets out of hand, but not dissuade agression too much IMO.

Seriously, Plato gets a 2 second penalty for deliberately punting a competitor off the track? Even attempted it with another driver earlier in the day too, but that time it went all kinds of wrong for him. :D

Not really, Collard and Plato were side by side coming through that chicane bumping each other, the result of that was both of them trying to get past the other.

As for the final corner, what he did was wrong and he deserves to be dropped back behind Gordon, however the same thing happened to him with Jackson and nothing came of it. Pushing Shed was more obvious IMO but you can't apply the rule for one and not another (as much as I like Jackson, think he is a brilliant driver).

I think the difference is Plato got 1 nudge under braking by Jackson in Race 1, while in Race 3 Plato was nudging Sheddon down the straight repeatedly and then pushing him through the braking zone. Jackson could argue the nudge was an accident under braking, while Plato's pushing of Sheddon was clearly deliberate.

We see drivers giving people 'a tap' all the time, its part of the sport. But Plato's move went much further into deliberately trying to push someone off the track.

Had Plato held back from pushing Sheddon down the straight and just given him a single tap under braking like the Jackson move he would have probably got away with it.

Alan Gow must be loving this though. I wonder how many more people will tune in next time to see if Plato is up to his tricks again :)

The last corner was quite entertaining, a bit like a Beach Race at times with Newsham and James

That looks like you were at a good spot for spectating there?

I've never been to Donington but looking at it on the TV it doesn't strike me as being amazing for spectators. There seems to be limited viewing areas, and those that do exist are miles away form the track?

Donny has massive run offs but there are decent banks to sit on behind the view of the TV cameras.

You can get a good view of Craner Curves. Don't think you can see the back straight at all, though I haven't been since redevelopment.

I went there a few years ago to watch WSR, and it's great. I normally wander around the circuit when I go to a race, but that day we plonked on the banking by the Old hairpin and watched. You can see pretty much from Redgate right down Craner Curves, and through the old Hairpin itself.

If you're looking to take photos, you will need a lens with some reach though, and there's lots of catch fencing in the way too.

There's limited access now at the old hairpin side of the infield due to the half finished F1 groundworks. There's still some accessible banking at the redgate/craner end but it's probably a quarter of the old size.

Dunlop straight is still mainly inaccessible due to the conference hall alongside.

Shedden has every right to defend his position, it's Plato's problem to work out how to get around him...

Granted but shedden was going over the top, there's being defensive and there's extracting the urine.

Not to mention plato was lapping a good 1.5 seconds faster until he got stuck behind, ok what plato did was wrong but you can't call shedden a saint neither, he knew full well what he was doing.

Everyone knows what plato is like, and he paid the price.

What's the betting he'll give him a wide berth at the next meeting.

Also what about collard, couldn't say who was right or wrong, but plato could have given a bit there, but neither of them was going to back down so the inevitable happened i suppose.

I think the Collard/Plato incident was 50/50, hence why no penalty to each. Collard pushed his luck trying to force his way through, and then Plato pushed his luck trying to squeeze him out.

Yeah that's what i thought. Bit cheeky of collard to slip inside like that, but you just knew plato wouldn't have given an inch.

Where are the good spots to view from at Thruxton. Thinking about going down on the day if the weather looks like it won't be awful. I assume we can just get tickets on the day?

Either the Complex (turns 3, 4 and 5), or the final Chicane. There are actually large parts of Thruxton that you can't spectate at, which is a shame, but of the areas you can those are the best.

Although theres nothing to stop you starting at one end and working your way down throughout the day.

i usually pitch up at the complex, get a good elevated view of a lot of the track so you can still keep progress of whats happening throughout the lap
