***The Official Core i3 Overclocking Thread***

well i failed before i could even try. GTA4 killed my overclock. the game was artifacting bad and when i restarted the pc it wouldnt boot back up. after a couple tries it defaulted to 3ghz and i had to go to bed. funny enough, at 3ghz this chip is STILL leaps faster then my e5200 at 3.7ghz.... at least in GTA4 it is!

are you using GTA 4 as a tester for ur CPU overclocks :S? if so don't lol

use IBT (intel burn test) run at least 20 runs on high at least if it passes then ur ok but people reccomend 20+ loops on IBT at maxiumum ram usage to see if you have a stable overclock.

haha no of course not. i just wanted to see how different it was... it definitely is that extra kick that gta needs to run smooth!

I've got 4GHz solid so far, 1.31V (1.3 in BIOS), 182x22.

Done an hour in Prime fine, max temps of 45/46 using a H50.

Going to go for 4.2 today :)

Not bad taking i'm still using the IGP atm :D

Busy playing with it, and atm i'm held back by the IGP.

Need to wait for my new GPU to arrive tomorrow before I can push it.

I've done a 1hr prime Small FFT @ 4GHz however that passed no problem.

You sure thats the correct model for that mobo.

Its not on the Asrock site:confused:

Was looking at Asrock for cheapness

H55m-pro sorry!

its a really nice board, i think. i love how there is bios profiles... you can save up to 3, and they are selectable in windows too- so you could really set up your system for low power usage if you wanted, then select high power for games. but intel speedstep pretty much does that anyway. also, cpu , ram and other voltages are also variable through windows, which is nice.

however, i still cant get the ram to run in dual channel. and i also cant boot over 180fsb, but that might be because my ram isnt well liked- that or i dont have all the voltages set right.

i dont think this board is any less quality then asus though, asrock has come a LONG way in the last 3 years or so... i consider them pretty much as good as any now. theyre better then anything in their price range that is for sure.

so ill let prime run tonight at 4ghz, 1800mhz ram.. it wont be quite what i wanted, but the difference from this and 4.4ghz is likely very little.

Asrock H55-m pro
2x2gb Gskill DDR3 2000 (sngle channel, 1600mhz. dont know why i cant do better)

this is sfft at 4ghz for 11 hours. somebody else will have to get that vaunted 4.4ghz 8 hour prime... i should exchange my ram for something else in hope to get a better o/c, but i really dont care. 4ghz stable is still awesome! btw, i grouped all the windows together and couldnt figure how to get them back in order (i got it back!). wasnt about to lose my 11 hour test though! it was on all 4 threads the whole time... but did you notice how it never even hit 65+ degrees?! arctic freezer 7 air cooling is tops!

QPI = QuickPath Interconnect

It basically replaces the old 'FSB' system, and is a direct link between the CPU and all the IO sub systems (like the Southbridge).

It is Intel's version of AMD's HyperTransport.

You don't really need to overclock it as it really doesn't improve anything due to already being massively overpowered for a home PC (even a gaming one), and it's generally best to try and keep it as close to stock CPU speed as possible.

QPI usually maxxes out around 4GHz, and will limit your OC if you try and take it too high.

building a H55M-UD2H, i3 530, 5770xfire system soon :D Looking forward to overclocking it. Can I get 4GHz on air? Might look at 3.8GHz with AC Freezer 7 pro v2

if i put the ram in their proper channels to enable dual mode, the board will not post. i think its just a bios problem though, its a brand new board/chipset so im going to give asrock some time to release some new updates.

maybe that qpi is why i cant get to 4.4ghz anymore. once i figure out how to lower that ill try again....

i dont think you want to run xfire on the H55 unless you just want more monitors. youll only get 16x/4x, and if you want both at full speed you need the p55 chipset.

Thanks for the info. single 5770 then? The budget is restrictive and the only other real option is a gtx260.
