***The Official Core i5 Overclocking Thread***

Err well I usually set my PCI-E frequency to 101, few years back a number of motherboards would actually fail to lock the PCI-E frequency if you left it at 100, 101 used to force it to lock though, it was a bug though, not intended, but ever since then I always set it to 101, just incase.

lol not just me then :D

Anyone know why CPU-Z is showing my i5 at 1.5GHz? :confused:

You must have speedstep enabled in the bios, look at the multiplier that should be 21 with turbo enabled not 9. It will ramp up as soon as you put any load on it. 171.5x21=3601.5.

Try running prime95 and see if it goes up.

If you're using Windows 7 you can change the advanced power setting's Processor Power Management minimum processor state to 100% to disable speedstep

Cheers...how high are people getting these at or below stock volts? Seen a couple at around 3.3-3.5ghz. I'm an occasional rather than avid gamer, so am really just going for a nice quiet build this time round...

Can get 3.4 but isnt prime stable, can run any game though which is stable enough for me.

You'll need a new top plate. If you had a S1366 top plate, you could drill holes insidethe S1366 holes, but S775 is too small, so I think you'll need a whole new top-plate.

Then if I recall correctly, you'll need a new base plate as well. And I have no idea if the spacers that Swiftech use to limit board stress are the right height for S1156, so you may need to forego those as well.

I was once in County Cork and I asked an old man at the side of the road how to get to Wicklow. He looked me straight in the eye and said, "Well, you picked a poor place to start if that's where you want to go". I think that just about sums it up. You'll need to do everything the hard way to convert an Apogee to S1156, and then there is the whole issue of whether or not it will be ideal for a hot-running quad-core. They are very good blocks though so it'll probably work fine.

The rest of your Apex kit is perfect though, so if you're looking for the lowest possible cost route the EK Supreme LT is probably the nearest you'll get to instant gratification under £30.

You could always try and get a Supreme used from MM and buy a Universal top-plate if it doesn't already have one fitted.

Just about to order the EK-Supreme LT i7 - Acetal (775/1156/1366)

What Barb size do I need so I can transfer my current Apex Kit including tubing.Or can I just use the barbs from my Apogee block?

For the life of me I can't remember what size it is...:o

It's G1/4 threaded 1/2" ID. The barbs off the Apogee will fit, but you will need to use PTFE tape as they are a very, very slightly different thread (NTSC I think) and they have very deep threads so you might need spacers to stop them bottoming out. If cost isn't a huge issue, I'd recommend swapping them out for D-Tek High Flows.

I recently got a i5 750 (oem) and a Gigabyte P55-UD2 as a budget i5 build...

To my surprize, this motherboard is phenomenal for the price as it's the cheapest P55 board available...

Got it installed under a cheap custom watercooling loop for now, still I am very impressed

Looks like a great clock you've got there with nice temps :) im still trying to get my core volts down and keep it stable in prime. can i ask what volts you have setup for VTT etc?

Hows that looking? I'm not used to these new fangled intel chips so not really sure whats "ok" temps wise, not had much chance to leave it running for longer than the above pic will probably do that at the weekend when i can keep an eye on it. More interested in temps atm. Is it likely to get much higher you think? That was under normal conditions side on case etc etc.

I have decent ish water.
I am @4ghz with 1.316volts 55/54/51/53 temp wise
rock solid 12 hours prime95.
Not tried yet to push any higher.

My overclock and temps using the scythe Ninja II rev. b, keeps it cool and extremely quiet too. No pwm fan, but it's at a constant 1000rpm and seems to do a grand job :)

There you go easy ;)

mind share us your bios setting?

I have the same motherboard but don't know how to get overclocked on it. What did you change in the bios? Thanks a lot. :)

Do you have any type of messenger..?

Also, list your components used.

Cpu = ???
Motherboard = P55-UD2
