***The Official Core i7 Overclocking Thread***

As for the warranty, does that cover overclocking? I wouldn't have thought so but I can't find any warranty details on the site.

Also, what cooling setups - i.e. what heatsinks - are people using for i7? LGA775s with adaptors, or new 1366 coolers?

Simple, disabling all the EIST speedstep C1E C7 settings in bios will stop it. Why would you want to though, mine drops right down at idle, doesn't stop it working at 4Ghz.

My 920 OC'd to 3.6 GHz but on 100% load core temps are 82 84 77 76
is there a way to bring these down, i.e. lower voltages?

(BCLK 180, CPU Voltage 1.425, DRAM Bus Voltage 1.5, DRAM Core Volt 1.375)

is there a way to bring these down?

Yeah... it's called watercooling ;)

You might be able to set the CPU volts and DRAM core volts slightly lower at that speed, try 1.4v on the CPU and keep going down until it's unstable. Your cooling is holding you back though, if that was upgraded i'd be surprised if you couldn't go higher than 3.6GHz.

I could upgrade the fans in my case to ones that offer a bit better airflow but at the cost of that I could be well on my way to water cooling.

I'll lower the voltages a bit and save for water cooling

Trouble posting above 171 BCLK

I am having trouble posting above 171 BCLK.I think i may have a very poor i7 920.I have browsed many forums and as far as i can tell bclk 180+ seems easy.I have tried a few bios versions as well (f3,f4k,f4l,f4m currently on F4).

These settings are stable (6 hours of linx).(The hottest core 67)

21 X 170 (with turbo on and HT) - 3570Mhz (Tried turbo and HT off)
all power managment off
vcore 1.31 tried up to 1.45
cpu/vtt 1.180 tried up to 1.360
cpu pll 1.84
qpi pll 1.14
dram 1.66 (1.65 in bios) 8,8,8,24 2t

qpi x36,unicore x16 and mem x8 (auto settings= x36,x8 x20) .Also tried qpi 36,unicore 12 and mem 6

The board will restart a couple of times until the failed overclock message is displayed on anything above 171.Tried 172-180 and 180-190 all with the same result.Looks like i am unlucky this time.

Anybody else have a poor i7?

@tonytiger

Have you tried a lower multiplier with higher BCLK?

My ram can run @1600mhz no problem

I have only tested the cpu up to 3570 because of bclk but i have tried:-

cpu x16,17,18,19 not tried any lower any point?

qpi x36 (lowest)
unicore 12 (lowest)
mem x6 (lowest)

These settings post @bclk 169/170/171 but if i use 172 it does not post.I think 170 is this max (171 is unstable and freezes in the bios)
