Anyone know what date the beta is starting please?

July 17th

EDIT: Never mind.

Mate who played the Alpha has been full of praise like. I didn't bother with it myself but will put a few hours into the Beta to fully confirm my pre-order. Already pretty certain I'm keeping it though as I really want more social multiplayer games.

Anyone know if the Beta will be the same content wise as the Alpha?

Just to answer my own question.

Whilst the alpha was the first opportunity for a lot of players to get into Destiny early, it won’t be your only chance before launch, “The beta test later in the year will contain different content – there will be a difference but what’s key is that every bit of information we’re gathering and the tweaks and adjustments we’re making will carry through to the Beta test”.

Sauce.

Anyone that got in alpha know if this seems similar to Defiance?

Depends on what you mean by similar, in a way yes as they are MMO's however this is in a different league to defiance so I wouldn't compare them.

Having played the alpha, I would say it obviously takes ideas from other games, however, it combines them in such a way that is just Destiny, the finished product is unlike anything else. The art style is a bit Halo, but it's not Halo. You could draw comparisons between explore mode and Borderlands, but it's not Borderlands. The crucible seems to draw elements from Halo and Unreal Tournament, but again, it's neither.

I found it a genuinely refreshing experience, and with the breadth of things you can do it's very hard to get bored. There was lots of 'I wonder what's over there' moments, or 'hmm what does this do?'.

Agree, i was amazed that from an alpha it worked so well, and to top it off, it was the most fun i've had playing a game in a long time, I really can not wait to play the Beta and final product.

Agreed. When the Alpha ended I actually felt a little lost, like I had nothing to play. I really enjoyed the openness of the game, even though it was obviously a severely restricted demo. I can't wait for the full game just so I can start exploring everywhere properly.

likewise. i am highly impressed.

Good news: Destiny Beta will be available to all PS+ members even if you haven't preordered. So for those (like me) missed the alpha or want to test it before buying perfect opportunity. Bring it on!
