Little write up -

Had the chance to play the d3 beta over the weekend. I was a big fan of d1 and d2 etc and played for awhile (until hacks bots were too prevalent).
Ive followed the d3 build for the past year~ ...
anyways

I'm kind of glad I had a chance to play the beta because I feel now I can much easier wait till its released.

I mean the game felt ... alright; visuals felt ok (but for a game that has the gaming world on its edge of it's seat ...) not that great. I honestly didnt feel there was anything spectacular about the game - I mean maybe its just because the game has been hyped for so long.
I have pretty much have played all the decent diablo clones to date; recent favs have been titan quest and torchlight ...

The main things that kept me interested in d2 way back then was
- HC ladder
- Fun co op play
- trading
- and of course the random loot drops

I could easily see the same thing occuring with d3; because as far as gameplay; ya sure it was fun but not mind boggeling. Maybe its because I have watched literally 30+ beta runs already on youtube ... who knows.

One thing I would have liked different was to make the characters smaller and to see more of the world. Im not sure if we will have the same effect like we did with d2 where we could have 50 monsters on the screen at one time and look to fight them etc ... the models here seem a bit bigger etc.

Dont get me wrong I am Very much looking forward to the final product its just - the beta which really doesnt have the things that kept me 'addicted' to d2 in them (because our toons arnt lasting).

I feel the rmah is one of the main reasons why the game is being held up; I personally wish they would just charge a subscription fee ... but whatever. I cant see the rmah being used that much for blizzard to make that much money from it. Maybe in the beginning but 6+months down the line just not so sure.

So lets hope for release soon Im hoping for april

The zoomed in aspect to the game is what worried me too, its very difficult to get that same feeling of being swamped like you did in D2. Prices of things on the RMAH is going to be redonk in the first month or so!

I think at this stage its too hard to judge what end game will be like and just how hard inferno difficulty will be but im hoping its going to be insane !

I'm officially getting fed up of waiting for it now :-(
It wasn't so bad when it was ages away, but now, people are playing it in beta and there are rumoured release dates some close, some a few months off. More and more hype is growing......
and..............
I'm fed up of waiting :-(

Yup, fed up of waiting too ... I have a feeling it's not going to live up to its hype. Not saying it will be bad, just not the pinnacle of gaming we've been led to believe. All this nonsense of it being held up for the RMAH / Korean approval is just irritating in the extreme. I don't believe for one minute Blizzard introduced the RMAH to "save" its player base from the pitfalls of third party auctioneers - they just want another cash cow to supplement WoW's gradually declining income.

Anyone else in the beta finding it sluggish in the UK? No EU servers yet so ping is about 200ms but it still feels slow (pretty quick connection, no issues with other games).

Oh and the downloader is really slow as well right now.

I feel the same about Diablo III and Guild wars 2, waited so long now with tiny teasers every now and then I've gone off the games lol

Was in a well known "Game" store this morning. Asked if they had any news re a release date for D3, and, whilst he said there was nothing official, the rumours coming out of the people in "the know" was that it would be closer to a Q4 2012 release date.

When I asked who the people in "the know" were he didn't have an answer though, so possibly just some youth who doesn't have a clue and made up a date whilst trying to sound like he knew what he was talking about.

However, seeing as I remember a rumoured Christmas 2010 release, and it's still not here, I wouldn't be surprised if this thread was still running in 2013....

Don't think I've ever been into that kind of shop and had anyone behind the counter know what they are talking about - I'm sure some exist but I've never come across one.

Xmas 2012 is too far away, I really can't see them waiting that long. I'd predict before summer, maybe even around Easter time. Only last week they mentioned taking stuff out of the game because they don't want it delayed any longer, I took that as a sign that release is only a couple of months away.

I have a feeling a lot of decent games are going to drop at the same time D3 arrives, waiting on Torchlight 2, Borderlands 2, Path of Exile, etc etc - all games revolving around loot will arrive within the same month and I'll spend more time trying to decide what to play than actually playing.

Which of them is gonna blink first?

not sure if its me but perhaps someone else can test ... when I use rapid shot with the demon hunter the game crashes - it almost acts like it lags out and doesnt come back. Does this repeatedly so not a one time off.
anyone else get this?

This is a known bug, check the D3 beta forums :)
