Since people are asking, yes, Paul Sams did announce during the closing ceremonies last night, before Tenacious D came on, that 1000 of the attendees at Blizzcon would be randomly selected to win a Diablo III Beta key. He built it up amusingly, saying, “I have three special words you’re all dying to hear.” Fans shouted out, “I love you!” “For the Horde!” and other such suggestions, before Paul finally went with, “Free Beta Keys!”

No details were given; presumably the ticket buyer will be notified when the time comes. Blizzard doesn’t sneak beta tests up on us; they’ll give plenty of advance notice before this one starts and we’ll post news where and when and how to sign up, as well as give you links where to win them. Its hard to get impressed by videos of a couple of skills from 100s... especially when some of them have the appearance of crappy low tier skills that probably have no real use.

Although it did make me want to play Diablo 2 again :p
