***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Having the vcore to auto is increasing your temps. Try setting it to manual, then lowering it.

Always use TAT for temps.

Yeah ive lowered it to 1.35 but not sure whats the lowest i should go, and i have 4 programs stating 10+ deg lower than tat.

First attempt at OCing a C2D, seems pretty straight forward. I'm currently running a long stability test so Not 24/7 quite yet.

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R

4 x Geil 1gb 5300 C4
Noctura
P180
26c ambient room temp
Running Vista x64 so no TAT readings

Another friend wants me to build him a system with one of these CPU's.

I think the 2160 would be best simply because its price is hardly anymore, or do they both overclock about the same?

Well i think the E2140 is a steel for that price :)

OK as per my previous post im still got a few questions.

Whats the max temp on this cpu? it says 61 deg on intels site.

Why when i stress test with Orthos i get a max temp of 60/60 deg measuring with TAT but when is tress the cpus with tat i get 68/69 deg.

When i test with Orthos do i just run the program twice? to stress both cores?

It also says voltage for this processor is 1.162V-1.312V which makes me wonder if i should lover the voltage to 1.2.

The bit that says what voltage to run is a general lowest operating voltage to highest, depending one what batch chip you get they might run at 1.1 or 1.3v

Max operating temp for me would be around 60c for long term use.

I had mine at 1.275 and failed orthos at 55 mins so now ill try it at 1.2875 aswell let you know how i get on.

Todays a bit cooler, my temps wit tat are as follows

Idle 40 deg & 58 deg in Orthos after 5 mins, but my tower is in a cabinet with a door on, if i open the door i get 49~50 deg, i have the antec 900 case and im thinking of putting in an extra 1-2 fans in.

Either that or cutting holes in my door and meshing it somehow, any ideas?

Then again i could allways put it on my desk.

As anyone modded there desk door?

Does the case have a windowed panel? You could replace that with mesh, though it's objectional because of pressure and dust.

Do you have a picture of the inside of the case? We could then see how the air flow is.

My Bios voltage is set at 1.2875V i will run orthos longer when i get time.

CPU-Z upated

I set the priority to 8 as i wasnt sure what to set it to other than 1

why does TAT consistently give higher temps than any other prog?

Its not a bad Q, all my other programs read 10deg lower, what makes tat so special?

I never know what to believe, especially with my cooling.

Noctua cpu fan, 2 x 120m fans at the front, 1 x 120mm fan at back and 1 x 200mm fan at the top.

Who knows?
