TAT (and Coretemp) read thermodiodes located on the actual core die so it gives a much more accurate reading. Pretty much everything else reads a diode located on the motherboard.

As asked does the intel max temp mean when measuring with the thermal diode on the chip (ie tat) or on the board (speedfan).

For reference i get 2-3 degres lower with core temp than tat.

Tat 36 / 35.
coretemp 33 / 34.

Hello :)

I've just set up an e2160 with the asrock board and ddr400 ram.

Few questions. Ive just set it to 244fsb and put divider on ddr333 but cpuz says my mem is 152mhz

Temps are around 54-62, is that good for a 400mhz overclock? At what temp do i call it a night at?

Also, this is my first time using orthos, how do i know when it "craps out"? :p

Cheers :p

DDR means it is doubled. So it is at 333MHz, DDR.

I assume that is with a stock Heat Sink. What is the VCore on (did you leave it on auto in the BIOS)?. If it is on auto, try setting it to 1.3 and test, then lowering it till it fails orthos 30 minute test. Then put it back up.

I would keep the temps below 60 load.

Oh right ok, i ran wow while orth was running, flew about a bit but even with wow running it stayed under 60 :)

Most things are auto in BIOS yes. Ill try find where the vcore is and try 1.3, then run orth again for 30mins? :)

Cheers for the reply :) Very impressed with the chip so far, windows so responsive compared to my amd 3200 venice :)

EDIT -

I can't find an option to change vcore? I can see the bios displaying this tho

Theres not many options under the Advanced - CPU Configuration.

Just downloaded your motherboard manual...

Okay, don't worry about your vcore.

Try your FSB at 250, see what happens. I think your motherboard is good up to 299 at least, if memory serves. Just keep pushing up the FSB, run 30mins of orthos and keep an eye on the temps with TAT. As long as (a) the temps don't go above 60 (and I have chosen that figure arbitrarily) or (b) your orthos doesn't fail then you can keep going.

Looking good tbh, as the vcore is auto you won't (touch wood) get much in the way of stability issues, just keep an eye on the temps.

I'm going to guess your going to get 2.691GHz (about). Not bad for a chip at that price, less than half the price of a e6600 :)

Doing a orth run at 2.5 now.

Temps shot to 58/9c within 3mins, looks like i might need to invest in a cooler soon.

Might leave this one going for at least 1hr to see what the max temp is within one hour.

Is this orth the strongest stress test for a cpu? Temps shoot up when i run it

hehe, nice :) And yes its a blend. Ive just used blend because thats what i see most people using.

Its been going for over 30mins at 2.5ghz. The temp has maxed at 63 so far but it seems to be sticking at 60/61 mostly.

Would it be wise to stick with 2.5ghz? Little worried about temps hitting 63 when you said i souldnt go higher than 60.

Dont want to break my pc :)

Up to you really. I prefer to keep my temps under 60, but some people are less bothered. Some people have heart attacks at 55oC lol :D

It might be worth stopping there, then perhaps getting some more cooling for your CPU. AF7 is about £20, and will shave 5-6 degrees off that temp. Tuniq Tower and the Noctua will shave off a few more, depending on fan speed.

How many case fans have you got at the moment?

As said above if your vcore is at auto it will incresase as required resulting in a higer temp. If you order a new cpu fan and decide on the the Noctua be warned you will have to remove the motherboard to fit it.

Also get somed decent thermal paste with it.

I have a pc7 with two 120m fans. Front one is blowing in at high speed, the back one only goes low speed tho, sucking out. Not sure how i make them both high speed lol

I've always had bad temps, maybe hot room.

I think ill invest in the AF7 next week :) Passed 1hr ok diddnt break 60 again, temp was between 55-58 the last 20mins.

Got my E2160 with my ASRock 4CoreDual and got the FSB up to 290Mhz and so getting 2.6Ghz on stock cooling. Hate those plastic pins on the HSF!!

TAT says idle is 40 degrees.

Did the 1M Superpi in 25 seconds which seems quite long compared to others in this thread.

Just running GO - SP2004 as I'm typing this!

What is your max temp at 2.6 mate? After 1hr of orthos the highest mine went at 2.5 was 63c. Mostly stuck under and around 60 tho.

I ran GO - SP2004 for 30 minutes and temps were 57 degrees. It is quite cool where I am (15 degrees) so a warmer day will probably bump up the temp.

Have you raised pcie freq at all?

I've been getting bad artifacts on all games, i put it to 110 and it seems ok at the mo.

Ive just hit 65d at 2.5 :( Dropping speed now not risking it

Tried 2.7 and temp was ok but shot up to 66 at one point
