***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Just out of interest (59 degrees here, load), what would the 4*** and 6*** series temp be at 1.325 volts and 3Ghz?

Rough guess of course-too many variables to give an exact.

Maybe ordering 1 of these as part of a Budget Gaming rig.I know the GFX will be a major bottleneck but i will be going for either a revised 2900xt [whenever they release it] or a 8800GTS.

Bearing that in mind would this be ok?Not used a Intel Chip for many years.

MEH!

Only getting 2.8Ghz still... 1.4185v in BIOS + 100mv offset, RAM Unlinked running at 667Mhz.

See the picture above, temps are pretty low for Stock volts, sometimes they spike to 65c for a while.

Will not boot at 1265 FSB and I cannot figure out why, funny feeling this is a bad chip.

Pack Date: 04/24/07
SL3AH

Got a feeling you are using P5N-E SLI?

Try upping the chipset voltage to 1.5V and jump straight to 1333Mhz FSB - mine has a FSB "hole" between 1200 - 1300Mhz where it won't post at all.

You can find loads of info on the official P5N-E thread.

Nice clocks guys - now I'm tempted - how well do you think these will clock in the budget asrock board (Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard)? - could be the ultimate budget machine (I can still use my 2GB of 3200 DDR) till quad core prices drop :)

Funny thing you mentioned that...I have the same setup, CPU arrived yesterday...got the chip at 290x9 at the moment...i'm hesitating to go any higher, because I heard that this board won't post any higher. running SP2004 the core temp doesn't get any higher than 58 degrees accoring to coretemp. I have my memory set at 166Mhz in the BIOS and CPU-Z says its 181Mhz on an 8:5 divider. My SuperPi time dropped 20% and my 3dmark05 score went up from 8000 to 9800 from what they scored at stock...I know I can go higher, but I have a wife and daughter, so I don't have too much time to tinker with it more today...I'm hoping to get a 50% overclock out of this setup.

Any theories as to why these are running so hot? I though less cache usually = less heat.

Some have said that it may be because these cpu's have paste in between the core and heatspreader, as opposed to soldered on for some of the other cpu's.....may try 'popping the lid' on mine and see how this effects temps :)

I thought all S775 were soldered?

I'd love to try that but unfortunatley the system is no longer in my grasp! :p

I will give it a go on the next one I build in a week or so :)
