I'm feel like I'm past the initial steep learning curve of ship control and systems now. I can hoon in and out space stations at 150 (I'm guessing the units are m/s) when the entrance isn't blocked by NPCs or people with docking computers. I have also setup my stick and throttle so I can do 'almost' anything without taking my hands off the sticks and know what the ships controls do.

Next on my list of things to learn, though may be not master for a while is what I saw in a youtube video of a guy dogfighting by using thrusters along with the usual XYZ joystick axes to keep a enemy in the cross-hair yesterday which was awesome..

I'll also have to dabble with turning off flight assist to use inertia to keep me moving in one direction while my sights are pointing in another.

Good luck with that as it is tricky as hell, I have been trying and I still have a long way to go to getting it right, but when you do it is the holy grail for dogfights...

I have pretty much everything configured via buttons, but I still use voice attack as it is just so much fun!

It's a lot easier with an analogue input i.e. analogue HAT or thumb stick. Not entirely necessary for combat as most targets move around too much to make it viable, it's only really useful against big slow targets who are less manoeuvrable than you.

Voice attack is brilliant. I have mine so I can say "Computer" and it replies "Yes Commander?" using Ivona Amy voice (computer voices in Sci Fi should really be English).

"Jump" "Initialising drive, FTL drive spinning up"

I'll be paying the $8 for this.

Not sure I agree with that matey, its fantastic against smaller targets, thrust down when pitching up to increase your rate of turn in a turning fight, slide sideways when they are on an approach run and watch how they miss every shot, use it to evade ramming manoeuvres, use them to bring the top of a ship into gunsights for targetting the power generator for an instakill etc etc.

You must have lateral and vertical thrusters to hand at all times (on a hat with all other priorities recended) and you must try to make a point of using them all the time and the more you use them the more they will become invaluable.

Wish I had an analogue hat though...

The key in combat is to be thinking ahead at all times - don't react, anticipate and all of a sudden you'll be screaming through areas without a scratch leaving a wake of space junk behind you.

Yeah, my thinking is that I can fly my FPV quadcopter in manual/acro mode which is the same in some respects, I fly mode 2 so the right stick is pitch+roll the same as a joystick and any input you give needs to be cancelled out by an equal and opposite input to stop the rotation so that's the same.

We'll see, can't hurt to give it a try :)

You can't do it against a more manoeuvrable target unless their pilot is an utter plonker who can't manage his pips, or an NPC. People over estimate the affect turning assist off has too tbh, it's handy but highly situational and I keep seeing people using it at the wrong time and prolonging a fight they'd otherwise have won easily. :p

Brutal, just worked up to my first hauler done a couple runs and I forgot I was wanted and was scanned and destroyed docking with Chango dock. lost everything back to a sidewinder and 1000 credits.

Never mind user error, I had a hauler and worked up enough credits to upgrade to a Cobra. Bought it, and then as the screen faded to black to transition to the new ship, the game crashed. Logged back in and my account balance was minus the 125k for the ship, but I was still in the hauler :( :( :(

I feel your pain. I accidentally boosted instead of using upward thrusters while taking off. I lost my type 9 with a full cargo of gold, ending up costing me 4 mil. :(

Done the boost death too.

It should disable boost with either station entry or landing gear out.

Something like that for station security.

Carebear things such as this should be purchasable rather than added as a feature for everyone.

Best way to learn is by boosting inside a station and losing your stuff. Bet you don't do it again in a hurry ;)

Lost my Cobra and full load to Station defence bug (blew me up for no reason) Havent the heart to start again till after my hols. Been stat wiped so many times over the months:mad:
