But it's not an open world game where you can go and do whatever you like is it? In Elite you just fly out into the uncharted galaxy and be whatever you want to be. Whether that's a trader, pirate, assassin, explorer etc, it's up to you.

There is very little difference between them actually, SC still has uncharted area for you to find. You can do whatever you want in SC, pirate, trader, bounty hunter, merc, miner, courier, explorer,Militia.. exactly the same as SC.

List me 5 things elite can do that SC cant

Star Citizen:

Star Citizen brings the visceral action of piloting interstellar craft through combat and exploration to a new generation of gamers at a level of fidelity never before seen. At its core Star Citizen is a destination, not a one-off story. It’s a complete universe where any number of adventures can take place, allowing players to decide their own game experience. Pick up jobs as a smuggler, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, or enlist as a pilot, protecting the borders from outside threats. I’ve always wanted to create one cohesive universe that encompasses everything that made Wing Commander and Privateer / Freelancer special. A huge sandbox with a complex and deep lore allowing players to explore or play in whatever capacity they wish.

Elite Dangerous:

Starting with a few credits and a basic starship, carve your own path through the richest, largest gaming sandbox ever created, set against a backdrop of raw anarchy, galactic powerplays and intrigue. Do whatever it takes to upgrade your ship’s hull, engines, weapons, defences, cargo hold; constantly improve your capabilities and influence on your journey towards the most coveted rank in the history of gaming - ‘Elite’.

difference= 0

difference is SC has a huge budget and sounds much more promising.

elite dangerous seems almost clueless and to much of a fantasy that wont ever happen like a lot of the promised features that are being dropped as launch features and will be DLC instead.

You get all future add-ons free if you pledge at least £90!
LOLWUT

Nothing I can see there has been previously promised, they have been very open about what it is. For whatever reason you seem to be hinting at some sort of deception. Why is this?

There are no promised features being removed, like you suggest, because there were no promises.

Nate

I dont need to show you anything if you were following the game you will know certain elements wont be included at launch any more as part of the base game and instead will be DLC such as planetary landing.

That latest video does seem like a "thanks for the cash but we will have to delay a fair few things" video, but i hope elite goes on to be successful, the genre needs a rebirth. However if SC comes to full fruition i do honestly think it will blow elite out the water, visually and game play wise.

i've backed SC but i dont have the confidence to back Elite sadly

In fairness, Elite is on target to meet the £1.25m (which equates to US$2m - same as Star Citizen achieved on KS).

But it remains to be seen what they have (and will) generate from the ED site itself.

Yes I felt the same way and mentioned the same thing earlier in the thread, it didnt give me a lot of confidence to see stating these points. And I guess Frontier realised that undertaking feats such as landing on planets and gett it right, are no small feats which need further time and effort. And to be honest, I dont mind this and take the time in achieving it correctly.

As to backing, what the hey, backed both ED and SC.

Except star citizen got like an extra 5 through its own site :p

Which is why I said this:

But to be honest, I am not sure when did SC start their funding endeavour via their website? Was it recently? If so, then I think ED is going to have a tall order to match that funding level.

SC funding was running 1 week before he Kickstarter campaign and the pledging drrive ended on the same date but you can still buy in. Its made over 200k since the official campaigns ended

Hmm, as far as I was aware, SC was basically a wing commander reboot. Now I've played several wing commander games and they were pretty much mission based story driven space shooters. But what do I know eh?

I'll certainly be keeping my eye on SC but Elite is much more my sort of game :)

The two games are superficially similar, but different in principle and detail. The biggest difference is that SC has 70 hand crafted star systems and is more story and scripted mission focused, whereas ED has millions of systems, mostly generated, with some missions, but the focus on the players defining their own career in a free form sandbox.

The ED updates have interviews with Chris Roberts, David Braben and Gary Whitta where they discuss the differences.

SC will have 100 star systems on launch and will hopefully be more like freelancer than elite
