Cheapest option is Thrustmaster HOTAS X which is around £30-40. Great stick for the money, doesn't feel cheap at all, only downside is a lack of buttons but this can be circumvented by using a button as a shift key, effectively giving you double (or triple if you make 2 shifts). Options after that vary, the X52 pro (around £150??) is the official but not actually offical HOTAS but plenty of people are using the normal X52s or the newer X55's. There is also the option of mix and matching joystick and throttles, the CH ones are supposed to be awesome for control and being precise but are a bit outdated. Not sure of the cost of the latter.

I don't disagree with the shallow game comments etc but damn this thread is turning into a whinge fest, it's like a broken record. Some people have given their same view over and over and over even to the point that when someone else posts something slightly positive, they respond with 'yea well it's just gonna be rubbish because of this' type comments. It's getting boring now :(

They are probably getting confused and think they are posting on the Frontier forums :D

Anyway after a session last night you can now call me 'Lord Hyperseven', kneel before my imperial might :p

Want to crank all the way up to Earl before 1.3 since don't know what the base rank for the courier will be.

I've just arrived on the outskirts of one of the Neutron star / Black Hole areas and the descriptions don't do this place justice.

It's utterly mental... if you turn off everything except non-mainstream stars the screen is FULL of them... thousands upon thousands.

Gonna be busy here for awhile!

(22KLY from Sol, 2.2KLY from SagA*)

Started the new community goal and picked up a load of non-lethal weapons to take to Persephone; left the docking computer to park my Anaconda like I've done a hundred times before and alt-tabbed to read the forums, only to suddenly hear "warning: shields failed" instantly followed by "eject, eject".

Had to laugh actually, don't really care about the 7M insurance cost but losing the exploration data and bounties I'd been holding onto kinda hurts. Sent in a ticket, perhaps I'll get my insurance money back. Taking it as a sign that I should take a break from Elite for a while and give another game a go for a while.

I ordered the X55 on the 12th... next day it goes on daily deal.. awesome :(.

Not played elite with it yet but i think if you have small hands, the top hat swtich might be a bit of a reach. You'd have to move your hand up slightly. Or, you might accidently knock the hat switch below it.

I just got me a cheap Thrustmaster HOTAS X which is very good for the price. It will do the job until the Star Citizen HOTAS is released probably next year.

These two community goals are a waste of time for most people, very small payouts and only suited to those running high volume cargo space.

I think there's just a lot of disappointed people around. I was a beta backer and really excited about the potential game to build up around this framework they created. Sadly it hasn't materialised yet.

I do worry about their ability to fund the kind of development this game needs long term. Frankly I would be very happy if they created a modding toolkit and allowed the community to start creating content which could be curated by Frontier before insertion into the Galaxy server.

As does mine. I will admit though, I am a little bored at the moment.

Sent myself off on a little explore mission but got bored after about 400ly so back in real space again, wondering what to do.

Tried playing in open last night. Went to the high intensity conflict zone in Quivira. Yeah, lost my viper and one of my Vultures. It took approx 15 seconds after declaring my allegiance for my ships to be dead. Both times by CMDR's. I think tonight I will roll up and then boost a good distance away before I pick my faction then gingerly wander back into the fray.

My Vulture had A class shields and at least 2 A class shield boosters. Mental.

Love the "bored after 400ly" :D

I'm about 22,000ly out at the moment and just jumped 2,500ly to get to the cluster of black holes and neutron stars I'm presently in the thick of. If you dedicate time to just jumping you can clear a 1000ly in an Asp in about 45 mins.

Mind you it's gonna be a long slog to get back... (presently visted over 1,500 systems, no idea what that number will be by the time I get back)

Some of these systems are less than 5ly away from each other, it's like God's blackheads at the moment..

Well support resurrected my Annie after the docking computer somehow blew it up; lost my unclaimed bounties and exploration data, but I guess I shouldn't complain :)

The trip back always feels longer than the trip out, those last few thousand lightyears in particular really seem to drag on.

I have just started my first exploration mission, not really been interested before but thought I would give it a go.
I am 1500ly out from Sol and have just been D scanning and jumping so far as most systems have been discovered, but now i'm into a area that has no scan results so my question is how do you budding explorers go about your business? Do you explore every system? is there some give away signs that a system is worth exploring?

any help would be appreciated
