*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Just had my first try in a conflict zone, killed a lot of ships before an elite anaconda took my shields out and I had to duck out. Went back to the station to claim my combat bonds, but nothing there?? What am I doing wrong?

Ahh, well that's annoying. They really don't make it very clear. I just assumed shooting someone would pick a side for me. It certainly seemed to. I killed so many ships too :(

Did same myself. Then when I learned needed to choose a faction, next time went into one, it wouldn't let me choose. Just avoided them after that.

Been a while since I played this. To be honest, getting a clipper was a bad decision. It's got awful jump range, awful weapons, and I have little cash.

So res are a no go, trading will be a pain, and it was giving me missions to small stations last I tried... So it just put me off.

Hoping to have some time this weekend to try and figure out what to do.

Buying any ship without having enough to upgrade it is a bad decision generally.

Oh, I had money for upgrades, and did, but not enough to make it any good for any one thing.

Default load out was a bit rubbish, especially the fsd. Was enjoying my kitted vulture before it though.

Bored jumping around ibootis, styx and the likes, setting course for Sol system, stopped half way and ran a few mill's worth of upgrades, A4 stuff isn't bloody cheap lol...

Anyone found any overcharged or funky weapons yet?
I'm still pottering around with gimble multicannons and turretted multicannons atm.,..

Not played this for quite a while (pre-wings update I think!) but would quite like to get back into it with a few mates that have picked it up.

I've got a fairly well kitted out Cobra at the moment and around 2.5M CR burning a hole in my pocket - can someone give me a decent route ship-wise and upgrade spec for a combat vessel? (I've stuck almost exclusively to trading rares up to press!)

Jumped into a system with a pair of Type O main sequence stars and a pair of Wolf-Rayets; the big blue stars are my favourites, so it was a nice find :)

Ahhh, I know that pain, jumping into a Cobra from a fully A-Specced sidewinder left me wanting more lol, I've pretty much taken to keeping ships now, currently have a Vulture, Asp and Python :)

Can Elite be played on a XBox pad without the need for an expensive joystick setup?

Most certainly, given that it is also available for the XBONE a lot of work has gone into additional control overlays to make it work well with it, the additional control settings for the controller are slated to come to the pc version at some point, unsure of when though.

Yes, it's very good on an XBox 360 Pad on PC, being able to use the D-Pad as a buttons modifier is what makes it shine, just be careful with the default 'Boost' button, it is very easy to accidentally Boost inside Stations if you're quite heavy on the Joysticks. You will still need to use a K/B and Mouse for certain things like the Galaxy Map and Missions/Galnet.

Since FD introduced the imho ludicrous decision that your faction rep would drop if you didn't log in to the game I haven't played. Is this "feature" still in there?

Yes, how is it ludicrous?, it's not like it decays particularly fast and it will only ever decline down to friendly or unfriendly at worst. I've done nothing whatsoever for the federation since it was added other than the odd bounty by chance and am still allied with them. Personally I think the whole issue has been blown way out of proportion and a massive over reaction was made.

I really do not see the issue with it, it's just another simulation of reality which adds to the game in my opinion.

I also managed to bag not one, not two, but three undiscovered Herbig AE/BE Stars all within 250Ly of each other :D
It's rare to see those as the system primary, but I've been visiting a lot of O-type main sequence stars this weekend and it's fairly common to see them as companion stars (I'd say upto a quarter of all O-type stars have an Ae/Be companion, some even have multiple).

Of course O-type stars are rare themselves, but around the edges of the core about 1k ly above and below the galactic plane they become much more common and are easy to find on "realistic" galactic map because they're much brighter than other stars and remain so even if you zoom out over a few hundred lightyears.
