*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I'm realising that to make any serious cash I have to accept I'll need to trade.
My Profits from Exploration begs to differ... ;)

Well there is that - but I'm not so sure I could cope with that level of boredom. :p
To each his own: I find exploration relaxing, with the occasional "wow, that's really cool!" moment; trading on the other hand is just mind-numbing tedium.

I only did a bit when moving from one part of the map to the other, took my armour out and fitted the system and planet scanners, not sure how the whole thing works though as I was travelling through systems with other planets and stations in them between ibootis and the empire homeworld, find it hard to believe that I was the first person there and they hadnt been mapped before, scanned every system that I landed in, then one said that there were 14 new things found, I did full surface scans on 2 before I decided it was rather time consuming (big system) to scan all of them and then just went on to scanning a system before I jumped to the next..

To do each planet you find would take aaaaages....

You're not the first to discover them, you just don't have the data on them unless you have either been there before and scanned them or have purchased the data via the galactic map. Scanning all bodies in a system is for the ocd crowd lol, pick out the interesting and we'll paid stuff and move on :-) you'll get proper first discoveries as you move farther out from the civilised bubble and you get paid a bonus for being the first too :-)

Absolutely - I'm just grinding for a means to an end, and I think trading's probably the quickest way for me to do it now that Anaconda's aren't in RES's any longer.

I'll probably do all this, get the pimped FDL and then bin it off :D

Or does it report it, but the local enforcement are somehow aware that you have or haven't scanned?
I suspect it's more that YOUR ship logs you as firing on an unverified target.
Essentially, during the time taken to do the scan, your ship is checking to see if the target is Wanted *in that particular system*. Same thing happens when you KWS them, but you're checking to see if they're Wanted anywhere else. If you fire before the scan is complete then, even if they are Wanted, you are in violation. Probably some monitoring software in the scanner, with T&Cs that you didn't bother reading.... :p

Either way, I think it's your own ship grassing you up, rather than theirs!!

Think I'll do a bit more bounty hunting in my vulture, with the aim of making enough money for a fully kitted asp. How much do I need for that?
For a fully kitted Asp?
Depends what you want to do with it, I guess.
When I sold my Combat Asp, I got about 24mil Cr for it. That was packing stuff like shield boosters, hull reinforcement, Multicannons and Beam Lasers. Some good bulkhead armour too, IIRC.

If you find a decent RES or conflict zone with high value targets, you could turn out as much as 1mil per hour.

Bought this yesterday on the Xb1, absolutely gobsmacked. Took a little while to get used to everything as I skipped all the tutorials but no other game has transfixed me quite as much since playing the original Elite on a BBC B back in secondary school.

Do we still have systems like Lave, Diso, Leesti etc?

I tend to be around where I started, Brani, Cupis, Ross 754 and the surrounding area.

Rather annoyed tonight. Took an illegal courier run to some godforsaken backwater that took ages to get to only to dock and find the game had bugged out and I didn't have the cargo somehow. Not sure as it definitely wasn't one of those 'find X for us' missions, definitely a 'Take this to here for us'. It paid nearly 200k and I wasted half a tank of fuel getting there. :/

so tonight...

- courier some illegal stuff 1 system away
- auto dock and as I enter station get scanned and fined
- told to leave station in 1m 30
- leave and get blasted by 5 federal vessels so run and just get away
- come back 2min later and drop off cargo (are they stupid or something)
- 8 federal vessels then camp outside station waiting for me to leave.. so I sat there and gave up for evening :)

I only get to play 30mins tops a day so these kind of missions are great

Thanks for tips on RES... very handy to know :)

...illegal stuff...auto dock...get scanned and fined...

OK...
Illegal stuff = Don't use auto dock! Use speed and if really not wanting to be caught, Heatsinks to keep your temps low on the way in.
(3 should do)

Zip through the doors at "as fast as you can without splatting into the back of the station" usually avoids the need for heatsinks. Anaconda's / Pythons etc need heatsinks to be sure.

Ahh the old rush to get in as they scan you, theres a station somewhere near iBootis with a Cobra shaped wedge in the back of the bay as I got scanned one the way in and boosted twice lol

I don't have auto dock and likely never will. Well, maybe if I'm flying something huge that fits through the opening with six feet of space either side but as the moment I haven't felt the need.
