*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

just in case anyone is bothered.

Hobby components in chesterfield sell all the parts for the DIY version at £18. Since building/using an IR LED head tracker (that's now goosed) I can't play the game without it (being able to just look around outside the canopy to see where your target is makes dogfighting soooo much easier).

I'd be surprised if there isn't an app to use the sensors in a smartphone if folks don't mind strapping theirs to the top of their headset. :D

And also depends if you reconfigged your controls at all...
Friend of mine new to the game keeps asking me, then finds he already redefined it!!

Actually, yeah. I fly with this as part of my setup anyway:

The F10 on the keypad is usually the freelook toggle and I've no clue what key the computer THINKS it is :D (they're all running through a cabinet keyboard controller/emulator with random buttons assigned) so I definitely can't help :p

Will try F10 next time. :)

??..

Hmmm, maybe it wasn't clear.

The keypad on that... panel (if you can see the picture) is tied to a device that emulates a keyboard (it's used in arcade emulator cabinets. You can wire joysticks etc up to it so it looks/plays like an oldschool arcade cabinet once you're in game).

If it is genuinely F10 then it's completely by luck, pretty sure I programmed the keyboard controller to various groups of keys scattered all over the keyboard.

If you want to find the key for freelook, press esc in game and go look at the keybinds you have set.

Stripped and sold my Viper last night for a Cobra MK3. By the time I had sold all the stuff I had added to the Viper and bought the Cobra I still had around 500,000 credits for upgrades.

Built the Cobra into a exploration/bounty hunting setup and I must say the step up from the viper is quite big, seems to handle a lot better. Stepping up from 9ly to 15ly has made a big difference too!

Currently making my way towards Sol picking up bits of smuggling work/bounty hunting along the way and scanning systems too. Also fitted a fuel scoop....should have done that a long time ago

Im hoping tomorrows announcement from Gamescom adds more depth to the universe and an alternative to the current grind.

Is it tomorrow? At what time? Streaming/no streaming, newsfeed, any other way to follow the event?

For the record, I put my 2 pennies on Planetary Landing as first paied DLC on december (maybe nov for beta duduers) :o

taken from the news letter 85 -

If you can’t make it to Gamescom, we’ll be bringing the show to you. At 4PM CEST (3PM UK time) on August 4 we’ll be livestreaming a pre-show Q&A with David Braben and Sandro Sammarco direct from our public stand.

Crowds flock to Gamescom 2014
We’re livestreaming from 12PM – 5PM CEST (11AM – 4PM UK time) every single day and there will be loads of ways for you to get involved in the show. We’ll have big announcements, interviews with the developers, tours of our stand, footage from attendees playing the game and much more. Every day we’ll be giving away exclusive Gamescom paint jobs for people watching at home, and for the first time we’ll be giving one winner every day the chance to name a planet in the Elite: Dangerous galaxy.

To name a planet you’ll need to tune in to the stream and remember a specific phrase every day. Every person who tweets that phrase, along with the #EDGC15 hashtag, will be entered in to the 5PM CEST prize draw. Paint jobs will be given out regularly throughout the stream, and there will be a fresh batch of prizes every day from August 6 – August 10 so make sure you come back every day for a chance of winning.
You can keep up to date with all the Gamescom chatter by following and joining in our official hashtag for the event: #EDGC15.

Save the dates, clear your schedules and join us on the official Elite: Dangerous Twitch channel for Gamescom 2015.

Ill be a bit disappointed if it is just Planetary Landing that's being announced. While that would be a nice DLC, i think there's way more that needs to be added to space before planets comes into things

A friend of mine made the elite Elite: Dangerous ship for Gamescom, he's been over to germany to set it up, i'll see if he's got any piccies.
