Was fuel scooping from a Type O when I got a little too close to its Wolf-Rayet companion, looked a little bit like this:

Escaped with only module damage, but felt pretty silly afterwards.

I always try to skim for a few seconds before I zip off to wherever I'm going but usually end up dropping out, damned annoying, IMHO there should be something similar to the cargo scoops display when you are fuel scooping or something added to the autodock so it auto refuels..

If you don't go past the yellow (I think) line around the star you won't drop out - The closest "ring" around planets / stars is the "go below here and you'll drop out of SC" line.

You can normally judge it by % heat too... Any more than 66% heat = time to get out.

Aim to skim along the outermost ring/haze area of the star.
Get some speed up and build the rate of refuel.
When the rate and heat are at tolerable levels, set throttle to zero and maintain orbit height. Done right, you should fuel up nice and fast, but not take on any/much additional heat at all.

Check YouTube for videos on how-to.
I bet Kornelius Briedis has a good one on it... Ah-HA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpGyEetJKUo

The other alternative is to buy the biggest and most expensive scoop you can. I jump into a system and immediately refuel at around 600/s, so it only takes a few moments to fully top up and I'm outta there! :D

Cheers guys, I'll have a proper play later as I am moving from one area of space to another...

Popped over to Empire space to get my rank/sip and now back over to iBootis, want to find somewhere interesting to go shoot stuff, then off to a high tech area to ramp up my loadout..
Any suggestions?

Goto Kremainn (see this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmbgTG78HRw)

Once there head to Kremainn 2 and look for a resource site.

Once there wait for the spawns to come - scan any ships if they are wanted (do not fire before you know or you will die) shoot away the police will help you out making it easy to make quick credits. In my first hour in a sidewinder I made 90k and I barely knew what I was doing I'm sure once I've perfected it I could make much more. I'm using this method to save up for a Viper Mk 3. It may not be the quickest method there is but its fun and there is an easy to get to nearby station to claim your credits - even if you die in a sidey it costs you no money to get a new one but you lose unclaimed credits.

At a decent RES site you can make close to a million credits if you're good. Sometimes I could make more but have to leave as I run out of ammo for my multi cannons.

Cobra mk3 here and it's pretty good but I just picked up the cheapest Lakon trader ship and have been doing some rare runs. Doing ok ATM.

Decided to give this another go and in the space of a week have sunk 15 hours into it! Up a lot from 1hr

Now zipping around in a viper kitted out for bounty hunting work (beam lasers, multi cannons, FSD interdictor, kill scanner, shield booster) with some "trading" thrown in for a little extra fun. Trying to get in and out of stations undetected is fun at times.

Had my ass handed to me a couple of times including one mission against a pirate in an anaconda. Nearly killed him until I messed up and hit another target by mistake and then it was game over

Thoroughly enjoying it at the moment :D

i cant seem to get myself 'out there' with this, im just running basic runs from one dock to the next, really want to get to the point where it clicks and opens up a bit. a lot of people say to do what ever i want but i dont know what that is :P

I recommend pirating! It's about as exciting as it gets, mainly because it's bloody dangerous. At the beginning your ship is rubbish, so I recommend upgrading to a cobra asap. Once you're there you can discover trading and combat and it really opens up.

Exploring can pay out nicely but you need the 1.3 million for an advanced discovery scanner. I have been on a trip to the core and slowly heading back. Filter the galaxy map for neutron stars only and find a dense field of them. Should make 50,000 odd credits every minute.

You do have to fly a good 10,000 odd LY out until the fields start though. There are millions of them though, so plenty for all. :D

Getting abit bored now and it seems a grind. I have a Vulture, not A spec but is worth about 10mill. I have a system with a ok RES which makes about 1mill per 40 mins but it's rarely a challenge and only times I have died was by accidentally shooting someone before scan complete. I have learnt in last few days always run a KWS before killing someone, makes so much more cash DOH )

Trading doesn't interest me, nor exploring, nor kill / smuggling missions.

You occasionally see other players... some guy showed up in RES last night flying a FDL and was quite friendly, then he rammed me down to about 20% hull so I just left.

I guess I need to find a war zone to try

So, when you take your fuel scoop out and forget about it, then run out of fuel....

Anyone near Ross 439?
No scanner either so no idea if theres anywhere to dock here...

I'm a total failure in life on this game. My Cmdr is a drug dealer. been doing the smuggling missions as i can't fight for crap in this game. made 1.5 million easy.

One thing that has annoyed me though, in the statistics menu their is no information about what quest's you've completed so since that's all i've done my statistics are practically none existent minus the 3000 credit's profit i made when i tried my hand at trading lol.

Still decent game, would be better with a wingman in the lonely dark.
