*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Hmm, is everything new from now on going to be expansions or DLC? The instanced model does make for some very long periods between seeing other players, I would like to see a universe or system wide chat channel, however much it breaks immersion. It can be very lonely out there.

Major updates will be DLC but in between them there will be tweaks and minor uptes regularly for free. See Powerplay, it was a whole new thing (totally horrible gameplay wise but whatever) but free.

As for more interaction with other players, there are just too many way to avoid it that it'll never get any better unless they introduce a whole new system of ownership and real means to fight over stuff. I doubt adding countless planets will make this any closer at all.

TL;DR: it surely is very lonely out there.

A couple of things caught my eye while reading through the description of Horizons on Frontiers site.

"Fortified Settlements

Attack and defend bases from ground or above."
- Player bases or the potential for?

"The second major update for Elite Dangerous: Horizons will release in Q1 2016 with more expansions to follow.

This second major update will include additional gameplay-focused content including an all-new game-changing loot and crafting system."

I read it as "hey dudes, in Q1 2016 we'll take you other 40 quid mkay? Don't say you haven't been warned"

/premium_beta_player signing off

Order now and be among the first to land, Holiday 2015.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will continue to introduce new features and gameplay as the season continues into 2016

No that will be whatever is next after Horizons :p
Exactly: Horizon £40, next major update £40. Isn't it the typical win-win situation? Oh wait....

Unless you have the lifetime pass of course :D
Paied it £30 and enjoying every single one of them quids

It's hardly forcing you to purchase it though is it, they're not pulling a Bungie and removing content if you fail to stump up for the new DLC as far as I can tell, I suppose the truth will have to wait until it is actually out however.

Paid expansions, missed that when I signed up, how are they going to do that then, have different servers for people with different packs?

Am I going to be killed by people that can pay for bigger ships and weapons, essentially forcing people that want to stay competitive to buy stuff?

They have stated that everyone will still play in the same galaxy. You'll just not be able to land on the planet (or leave ship when that DLC arrives). The ships should be the same, apart from specials such as the Cobra MKIV and existing ships should be more than a match for it. I think there are meant to be 30 ships everyone will get access to and then there will be specials released with DLC. They have started to introduce ship variants to try and add a bit of extra variety. All that being said, there may be DLC ships eventually.

There were always going to be paid expansions, everyone knew that when they first bought the game. That's why I went with the premium beta as it covers all expansions to the game.

Not that I ever have time to play the game but someday I might!

I just hope the planet surfaces dont all look too similar like the current stations do, after so many it would become a bore else.

I have been playing since early Alpha and the game badly needs depth and im hoping this announcement will breath new life into what has the potential to be a really good game.

Game servers seem to be offline at the moment. Wonder if we are getting 1.4 today or if something has gone a little wrong with preparations for the Twitch stream.

Ok, well I dont feel so bad now then, as for the life time pass, knew nothing about that...

I feel that they should have priced the expansion for existing players as being a heck of a lot less than £30!

For £40 a new player will get the base game + the expansion it would appear, so surely they should put the DLC for existing players at around the £10 mark? Seems like they are shafting there current player base who don't have the lifetime pass a fair bit.

I'm glad I got the lifetime DLC pass when I could but I am very concerned with the direction frontier are taking this game the base game really needs some life bought into it apart from grinding for a better ship. Hopefully some of the features from horizons will transfer into the base game and can spice it up a bit more.

Its a powerplay update 1.3.8 i belive, mainly fixing network issues

I'm all for planetary landings as long as every land able planet has something to do that's not a cut and paste of the previous planet. I know they've said there's lots, but they still say that for the current exploring....

I'm glad ive got a lifetime pass though lol, price seems steep to me.

There still more 1.4 information coming out this week as well i believe?

Hi,

Powerplay update 1.3.08 is incoming. The servers will be down at 10.30 BST this morning and will be offline for around 30 minutes. This update has the following changes:

- Fix crash trying to update a drones location post physics when attached to a target ship which has no longer got any attach points
- Fix crash on drones when changing authority fails
- Fixed issue with mission cargo generation not storing the starport type on its destinations. Was allowing players to accept delivery missions to outposts with large ships
- Avoid deadlock when a machine (re)connects and the machine also has a pending routing query (from a different machine)
- Request routing data from the server as soon as we receive a sync letter from an unknown machine - may fix some connection issues
- Fix for merging islands in supercruise
- Fix for LAN connection issues (after conencting over lan, if both players had upnp enabled, it was switching back to wan connection)
- Allow recognition of a LAN-connected machine, in cases where Turn had failed to initialise
Add a new appconfig option, RouterPort, to tell the game that a port has been explicitly mapped on the router (another config setting affecting upnp has also been renamed to avoid ambiguity)
- Various telemetry fixes
- Make sure a machine is released from the server if they have disconnected
- Improved invalidation of client-side caching of Powerplay cycle changes
- Add shader warming option to the graphic options
- Low level thread affinities change - possible fix for some stuttering seen on some machines

Thanks

Michael
