Yep, that's one option.
The other is to get involved in the community goals (CGs) which are updated every Thurs, typically with a new bunch of 1 week location activities. From what I've seen, should be fairly easy to make a few million without a massive level of effort.

You do forget that many community goals cannot be done by a new player?
Not in the starter ship at least, let alone the need to outfit it, find a way to the stations involved, because they are too far away from the "outer rim".
And the drive is too small to get to more than 5ly away.

Where did he advise new players to do that?

Passenger missions are pretty cool

Advice: Read whether the passenger(s) is wanted first. If they are - and you're taking them due to the value being crazy good - make sure you sort them out first. Otherwise prepare to go bye-bye if scanned at a station

I didn't know that about the wanted, so cheers for the heads up :)

Personally i think adding a glorified in game TAXI service is nothing short of insulting to the player-base.

Especially as somehow it takes me even longer to jump out of hyperspace.......

As for the rest of 2.2 it is just average.

Again, it's a classic case that Elite is a MASSIVE game for what "could" be introduced. The problem being that you'll simply never please everyone. Clearly some people love the fact that it encourages them to visit specific locations, possibly along the way deliberately taking wanted persons to make it more challenging.

I think it's a big of a bugbear for FD, that there's thousands of ideas on where to go next, just a question of picking those which are going to best please the player base, which unfortunately is simply never going to please everyone. For example, they might do a major overhaul to say the combat system, possibly really pleasing the combat oriented players. Those who play to explore will then be the people to complain of "nothing for me...".

This.

The key thing here is that FD have shown that the game framework CAN accept new material, ideas, tasks and game options. The game can (and will) go to amazing places and give us all great experiences.

Passengers are a way of making money, but they are also a superb mechanism for the game to lead players to new worlds, sights and possibilities.

I am not a complete fan-boy - the game has real issues. It is grindy, engineers is a great idea but needs tweaking on the RNG element.

But, there are very few sandbox games out there that offer as much flexibilty.

Personally I am waiting for atmospheric landings, procedural based life, the ability to walk around the ship etc.

Agreed. I love the game but that doesn't mean it doesn't wind me up at times. An example was getting 25 fragments and having to just sit there in a system and wait for the right type of USS to appear is just stupid. Make me fight someone or meet someone or do something to get them but don't RNG it. I don't generally mind the grind and my 7 weeks of play will attest to that and there is things coming which I will enjoy. I personally look forward to landing on earth likes and other planets and even the autop-pilot feature will be cool. I can sit on auto and do other bits and take over if interdictions or combat arises etc.

Imagine if FD had SC's money. This game would be imense

Yer it would. I am a little biased to Elite from the olden C64 days but I like what Braben is doing and how it is coming along but it could be a little quicker. I remember seeing a 10 year plan which was awesome but 10 years???? I might be dead by then at my ripe ol age :D

I'm finding it terribly laggy since the patch, taking 30+ seconds to drop out of FTL, loading the starmap takes an age.
There also seems to be an issue with CZ's in Maia as well, after about 2 hours of play I found 2, one that was empty and one around a capital ship..

i was around maia with some other friendly cmdrs over weekend and the czs were not working, or they were there but with the wrong factions. we also had a game lock up issue when in wing that seemed to happend fairly frequently... we gave up and left

Last night there were quite a few server disconnects when coming of light speeds.
But had no issues since patch

I'd rather have an agreed ten year plan that's stuck to than a BS plan that is pushed and pushed. Not biased haha

I enjoy the game, however the the idea of adding TAXI missions is laughable and why people are claiming its great as it takes you to new places etc is just pathetic.

I.E

Take 120 tons of Computer Components to SOL, this is elite level mission and the chance of being hunted is high.

Take Mr X to Sol, this chap is wanted so the chance of being hunted is high.

So you sacrifice cargo space for a cabin and gimp yourself in jump range as you end up being wanted.

This is probably the most frustrating game i have ever ever played which is down to liking it so much but its just so

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
