*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

For those who have checked out the Formidine Rift Mystery, it now has a voice acted sequence. If you want big spoilers (of which the YouTube video's title card is itself):

Live Event: 29 Apr 19:00 BST in the 46 Eridani system - Open Play only. Commanders Salomé, Raan Corsen, & Tsu Singh will be present. Anyone turning up is advised to be heavily armed.

If you haven't been keeping track of Salomé's exploits on GalNet, here is a video by ObsidianAnt explaining it all.

I'm probably going to show up & more than likely get blown up! :)

Need to figure out how to get the audio playing through the Rift headphones, I dont have ED purchased through Oculus as its a separate install, the only thing not working is audio and doesnt seem make any difference if I select HMD speakers or HMD headphones in ED setup, also tried changing default audio playback device in Windows which also made no difference.

The only way I can get audio to work is by loading through the oculus site. In fact it won't even load properly on the rift unless going through the oculus site

After seeing all the nonsense on the forums and reddit today about this event it's hugely amusing to see how the main character of this 'story' has apprently met her demise! I can't believe they actually thought the notorious Cmdr Harry Potter would help defend her. What a bunch of clowns. :D

Proper lulz were had.

well 3 out of 4 survived and the information was delivered safely.

it was a community win.

she made herself the focus and died as a decoy.

not all of the 2500+ defensive ships in the fleet were following her as it became pretty obvious early on that she was using fsd jump boost injections.

no chance at all of keeping up with her.

When you read that people thought SDC could be trusted:

Edit: stupid Dropbox messing me around...

I'll just use my imagination ;)

As for the event, I had thoughts it'd not go overly well, so opted for watching streams instead of logging in.
I was right.
Not only did instancing make it a pointless "pop in & out to see anything", there were several DCs, including those that were being chased.
So even if you fluked getting into their instance, chances are one of them'd DC & you'd never see them again.
One streamers pc crashed, so went to watch another. They'd just got into the same instance as Salame as they were jumping out. Chased, never saw them again.

Ah welp.

It was a pretty shameful, and predictable display of Elite Dangerous' core problems/limitations.

Oddly, I was actually flying down to Achenar roughly about the time Harry was immortalizing himself in the annals of Elite trolling, and the game was actually running very smoothly. Trouble is once you get near the actual fun stuff, such as lots of players flying around and things actually happening, it all just falls down.

I wonder what conclusions Dave and Co. will draw from today's events?

Yeah, I was surprised they even attempted this. The servers are renown for not being particularly good. Wonder if CCP could give them some hints ;)
Mud slinging is in full flow on reddit as to why they even let a known troll "protect" anything too.

So its been a shot storm then, someone who is a known troll added by Salome who then does a double and kills her, no shocks there then...

ED wont live this one down for a while...
