*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

If the mission has the blue horizons logo, then it means you will need to go on a planet. Not sure if they specify SUV though.

It means you need Horizons to do the mission and in most cases this means a planetary landing but not all. It should say under transactions tab (left panel '1') in the mission's details if you may need an SRV (says at the very bottom iirc). Some missions, such as destroy skimmer ones, you don't actually need one as you can just blast them with dumb missiles from your ship.

Guess who forgot that Limpets are not included in the basic restock options and went all the way out there with nothing....!!

Rofl I did that once, however it was my first go at mining and I was fairly clueless as to how the whole "limpet" thing worked....what was your excuse? :p

It was half four in the morning, I'd just arrived in-system after a several thousand Ly trip, and I haven't used limpets since the Hatch Breakers were first introduced... Why do you ask?

Glad I'm not the only one that does something nutty.Flew a long way to do some scan quest.Found the site, landed & pressed 3 to get into an SRV.Oh, forgot to buy a hanger, let alone an SRV

Yep, don't worry, we all do it. Quite often I've left a station then immediately had to turn around and dock because my tank was empty & I'd forgotten to refuel. Another classic is going to a conflict zone then realising I'd forget to fit the military grade armour & shield boosters! :)

So a generous friend bought this & a HOTAS for me for my birthday. As a new player, the game is bamboozling but thankfully YouTube is a trove of resources and information.

So far, I'm really enjoying flying and customising my ship. However, 90% of the comments I see on Reddit and YouTube are moaning about the lack of content and banging on about how awful Frontier's updates are. Is it actually true, or is it just a load of whiny teenagers?

The game seems quite empty and there doesn't seem to be a huge amount to do vs. other space games like Freelancer, but that was primarily a single-player game. I'm just wondering whether there is actually more out there than meets the eye, or it's just a case of grind, refuel and repeat?

The game is kinda empty, lots of things tend to be grindy, but thats life in general tbh so while it is empty, what do people expect..
Have to see how the Thargoid thing pans out and if its implimented properly, finding damaged Thargoid ships and maybe using that to mod your own ship could be interesting, but so far they've just been there and pretty much nothing else on the interactive front, they power down your ship, then **** off...

Who said they were Thargoids?

From what i remember Thargoids were hostile on sight, and these dont seem to be, These are Unknown at the moment, will be interesting to see what they are in the end.

I do hope tonights live stream is full of juicy information, i feel its needed.

I had a go in the beta (what a mess lol) but good to get the tests done for networking.

Flewe around the Pileades (spelling) but ive never been hyper dicted and sat at a couple of barnacles but nothing doing there either.

True, dont remember them being named either, its getting a bit boring though them not being interactive..

It's somewhat complex, but still quite easily playable and with enough artistic licence to make it fun. There are a couple of space-sim games that are SOOO heavy on the realism, that it's a half-hour mission just to take off in your ship!

What was there to do in Freelancer, though?
Pirate, trade, bounty-hunt, smuggle, explore.... Join an online server and do the same, but with added PvP. Pretty much it. Maybe hunt some Nomads?

What people forget is that Elite 1984 was pretty much the same as this, so it's not going to be Star Citizen wherein you can watch whole movies while sat in the pilots lounge, or whatever their latest feature is... This is back to basics, same as the first game and leaving things completely open to you.
E3 is coming up, so I imagine there'll be more content coming. We'll see...

Another live stream tonight which is leading into info about E3 and 2.4, a forum post is going live just after the stream giving more details about the content and direction of Elite.

It's not a 'game' it's a space sim. Flight sim and trucking sim.

I'm liking it but can see you'll get out of it what you put into it.
Puts a lot of people off and don't be afraid to walk away :)

Just "earned" 8 million from last nights CG. 6 scans I had lying around for months finally came good.

Not holding out much hope for the 2.4 and future direction reveals though, but I'm sure we'll get a nice cut-scene to stoke the dying embers of the hype train...

Hi everyone,

A word on tonight, and these livestreams in general. Warning, spoilers ahead for those that want to join in.

SPOILERS START

The first part of the stream will continue the narrative thread from yesterday, with a couple of fun puzzles that we can work on together (if you want). At the end of the stream we will be showing something new in game that you can all come along and visit yourselves. Following that there will be a lore-based reveal where we will be looking towards the future of Elite talking briefly about 2.4 and setting the tone for it via a couple of videos (including a talking head interview with David Braben). A forum post will then go live explaining a little bit more about what was shown, and why we chose to show it in that way.

SPOILERS END

We tried to do something a bit different yesterday, by putting on an extra livestream before E3 to start the ball rolling and have fun with the game's mechanics. We wanted to do something unique and fun... but maybe it was slightly misjudged on our part. In future, we'll be more careful with wording when discussing livestreams that surround E3, and we'll try to make it emphatically clear when and how we'll have "big reveals" for you. We're sorry if you feel we've misrepresented these streams in any way.

That said, I do feel that some people have been a little harsh with their words... towards us, and towards other people on this forum. I'd ask those people to take a step back for a moment, and to measure their expectations for this evening.

A forum post will be going live after the stream that will have further details about what we showed off at the end. If you'd rather not watch the stream, then please wait for that forum post as it will have a short summary of everything you need.

Thanks,

Ed
