*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

As you will know by now, there are alien ruin planets near Maia, they updated one of the smaller sites to have a ship and drones protecting it.

The larger alien ruin site near Maia is the one that you want (with about a dozen barnacles). It has no protection or guards.
That may be the one I nearly found before smashing my face into the planet like an idiot. Is there an easy way to find these things?

I am currently sitting around 5K ly from Sol and enjoying some exploring. Back enjoying the game as well but it would be awesome for FD to have a look at how exploring is done and maybe spice it up a bit.

Did you see the post from last week?

Beyond

So with the Horizon season of expansions coming to a close, what is beyond 2.4 I hear you ask? Well, it certainly isn’t the end of this amazing journey… we’re only just getting started!

Our awesome dev team are dedicated to continuing to build and improve the Elite Dangerous experience with an exciting long term vision in mind. We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players.

We’ll be sharing more news on that content and our roadmap at a very special event coming later in the year - more details on this event will be released in the weeks after E3.

On behalf of the entire Elite Dangerous team, thank you for your continued support. We are very excited to embark on the next part of the journey together as we continue to make Elite Dangerous an even more fantastic game and experience for our incredible community of players.

Hopefully it'll get fleshed out a fair bit during the year :)

A single-player training story mission with famous voice actors called, oh I dunno, Fleet 63, or Armada 81, maybe?
Five different 'variants' of each ship, all sold separately and just in different colours?
Oh, I know - A stack of digital decorations, for your home Coriolis dock! :D

Cheers, that's a newer version than the one I had. SAo, assuming the internet never existed, how am I supposed to find these things? How do people find them? Planetary scanner? Driving in an SRV around the whole planet?
I also find it really hard to locate coordinates on a planet. I know what they're supposed to mean but getting the correct bearing is really hard.

Reading Galnet, station articles and asking people would be the way, can't imagine that if our civilisation ever gets to a point similar to what Elite represents we wouldn't have an internet still though and I really don't get the whole 'it has to be in game to be usable' stance, I suppose FD could add a browser window in game the same as Eve did to appease the purists but it's really being pedantic isn't it?

Some of us don't have enough time to read thousand-page forum threads, watch several hours of YouTube, plough through GalNet and station articles, talk to other people *and* still play the game... even if we cut out eating, working and sleeping.

The one criticism of FD I fully agree with is that they're quite crap at getting information out to players. At one stage, the only way to learn how to play the game was watching YouTube, or asking questions on the forum. They even did a manual, but then decided to use player-created content because the latter was far more informative, comprehensive and comprehensible. The more recent training videos are a bit better, but still quite wanting, especially the narrator bloke.
So now, with so much out there, it does seem like they sometimes forget to tell people about all the cool stuff out there. I think that's why so many players think it's empty and shallow - Not enough people know, or spread the word about, the good stuff.

I actually don't mind having to work things out but this one thing really irked me.
The 'quest' is to obtain some meta-alloy. Not one mention that it may be an exotic alien type thing. If I hadn't read up on it I'd be mining in all sorts of places trying to get this.

Who needs to spend that much time, use Inara or Elite Wiki, it's not rocket science nor time consuming.

I had no idea about Inara, actually... which only reinforces my point about people missing so much of the game because they hadn't heard about XYZ.

For the Wiki, just like all the other trade apps, companion apps, news apps and so on, there's no guarantee how up-to-date people have kept it. I have used some of it (in fact, I don't think I've ever How-To Googled anywhere near so much for a computer game, before), only to find the info quite out of date.

But either way, I don't believe any game should rely (especially this heavily) on players passing around information and answering questions that the Devs should be providing... with the obvious exception of secret stuff that's meant to be 'discovered'. I'm talking stuff like how to use Flight Assist On/Off - That should not have a short entry basically comprising, "Err... yeah, well... it's sort of like.... well... err... oh, I know, just watch this guy's channel on YouTube [inserted link]". That's shoddy and unprofessional once the game leaves Beta and is supposed to be fully released.

That was the initial problem with finding meta-alloys. Inara and trade apps all say buy it from a certain outpost but that was patched out days ago as the purchase of it was a stop gap whilst FD made them drop from barnacles as they should have done.

Anyway, it's a only a niggle. This is a still a game I've played from beta, had a very long break from and am now back at it like nobodies business :)

Never ran into a barnicle whilst on my travel yet, nor have I ever been booted out of FSD by a Thargoid, some folk get everything all at once ;)

Think it's time for me to load the game again today.

Be nice if they were actually interactive in some way, rather than untouchable things that come and go regardless of interaction.
