*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

To be honest I was just tired, I'd woken up really early so went on to pass the time until the other half got up. I rushed as I wanted to get breakfast and pressed the wrong button on my HOTAS.

It was all fun though, I'm still relatively new to the game so it wasn't much lost. But the 4mil payout would have been sweet as I only had 1

Not done that, yet.... :p
Have just had a really close call though.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

Just done the Thargoid(?) site & activated it, then scanned the device.
Decided to do the Alien(?) Ruins bits in the device & kaboom! Bright lights & Scavengers attacking me. NP I thought, kill them & enjoy the view.
Oopsies, hadn't realise I was getting damaged until my SRV cockpit blew out
Quick escape from the chamber, heading back towards my ship when the alt tab bug struck me with 2:24 left of oxygen.
Loaded game again, luckily had 4:05 on the clock, so raced towards ship, but I'm now on outside ring of the area.
Nope! It's decided that because I wasn't there for a short while, that it's leaving the area just as I get nearer the ship, so have to recall it

21 seconds remaining on the clock by the time I get into the ship, PHEW!

Think I'll head back to barnacles for some relaxation :p

I done buggered up this morning. Took my first criminal on a 3 hour sight seeing cruise only to crash docking whilst going silent as I hit boost rather than landing gear.

Gutted! lol

Get the auto dock ! It makes life a lot easier. :p

The amount of times I've boosted instead of putting my landing gear down is countless. Haha. I've never totalled a ship though !!

Currently running a cobra mkIII with two auto canons, and two seeker missile launchers. Sort of stuck as what to do now tbh

Edit. Missions seem to be few and far between. I'm not applicable to do any mission really that earns me more than 100k at a time :/ any tips ???

I'm pretty good at landing for a beginner, I really needed to rush to avoid ship scans as my passenger would have had me shot by security :)

What I've done as a n00b is decided to explorer / deliver people about. I spent my first few hours killing npcs at ore belts (with the help of "da police") to make my first million. I then went and got a cobra mk3 and travelled to a systems with tourism until I found a station where I could get passenger cabins. It was then a case of doing missions and scanning EVERYTHING (then selling the scan results to level exploring) when then seemed to get my standing up enough for missions to take people about.

At this point I now have a Carrier (the levl 6 one, 1mil cost for hull) and a few different cabins, which I'm not using to pick people up and keep taking them along. I'm deliberately moving further and further away from the start. It feels REALLY intimidating but its not bad :)

Ore belts ? I've not been to any yet. I usually hang around beacons waiting for wanted ships to warp in. Takes ages to earn small amounts of cash.

Might check these ore belts out !!

Any particular scanner I need to scan stuff ?

Missions you just need to keep improving your standing, my advice would be to pick a home station with a minimum of 5 factions and just run what they want you to run. As your rep/influcence goes up the missions value should improve. If possible only work on one faction that is aligned to the feds or empire.

Also get a second screen to take away the grind and watch stuff like this :)

It gets better and better as you go along. Shame we do not have Magnatars in ED :)

Any recommendations for a good home station?

Ondi maybe or go to Quince and get some cash if you need it and do scan missions if you have horizons.

I would consider gaining rep with the empire first, but eventually having both would be nice.

Go and do the current community goal in Kaal. As well as getting the cash for bounty hunting, you'll get a reward when the CG ends. Just look at the top of the mission board for the one in grey.

Just remember that if you are in open it's very likely there will be a fair few PvP players looking for easy kills.

I've literally just signed up for that !! :D it's 149ly from my current location. So it'll take a fair few jumps to get there.

I've just pledged alliance to one of the powers too. (Number 1 in the list)

I'm playing solo at the moment. Might head over to kaal now. I feel prepped enough to fight off most ships. Competent are easy kills.

Edit. This game. The scale. The sights. Stunning. I'm in total awe.

Edit. Also, is horizons worth it ?? I've got the base game. Just wondering whether to snap that up as well ? It's a season pass for £19. As I was typing this I was just coming out of warp.. almost slammed straight into a brown dwarf :D oops

Id say Horizons is definitely worth the price.
It adds more variety in the quests & scenery (although most planets are just cratered balls, there's the ruins & the latest discovery, along with plant life too, albeit sparse).

I imagine there'll be more added in the future too.

btw, fairly sure Horizons has been cheaper than that too, so keep peepers out for sales.

11 more jumps to kaal. Gonna dock. Save and probably buy horizons.

I'm on PS4 so I don't think I'll find it cheaper :/ that's if horizons is even out on PS4. This is a season pass for 19 pounds.
