*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Wow, seriously? Has it really affected you that badly? Surely, as someone that plays and enjoys Elite Dangerous, the last thing you'd actually want is for the company to be sold to EA so that the game disappears? Oh no wait, you don't actually play the game and all you do is bash it whenever you can. Why do you bother coming back into this thread when you're not actively playing the game and all you've got for it is hate? I really don't see the point.

Back on topic, I've been holding off on getting Odyssey, but the videos make me really want to get it. I'd love to be able to land my Corvette on a planet and then have a walk around it to get the full sense of the scale of it all. I've got loads of other games to get through right now though, especially with Valheim, an Xbox and Game Pass so it'll be awhile yet. Hopefully by the time I do get around to it, the issues will be sorted!
I thought i was in the SC thread for a second. Leave the bashing and negetive posts there lol!

So basically the "roadmap" TLDR is that the product is effectively still in alpha/beta development and testing on PC and performance optimisation/bug fixes will have to wait until the console version comes out in 6 months time.

How the hell is performance optimisation something they say they'll get round to in several months time. Surely optimisation should be one of the very first things done given how unplayable it is on even relatively mid-high end hardware at the moment. Especially given how well the game ran across a range of PC specs prior to Odyssey

I know we're all trying to stay optimistic but I think we have reason to be negative given how Odyssey's launch has been handled and the quality of the product delivered which clearly is still months away from being ready for release.

Clearly the game was rushed to release. I can't help but feel they'd have been better marketing the game as a beta/alpha and being honest about the current state of the game rather than trying to pass out off as a final product ready for commercial release.

Effected me not in the slightest, however Devs and publisher's pull this same stunt of releasing clearly 100% broken games. A simple meaningless statement from CEO or community manager and life goes on regardless.
i remember the good old days of the First Encounters release. more bugs than an ants nest. ended up taking full page ads in game mags to announce a fixed version was available.

That is the impression I get. Rushing to console release using PC as the testing platform.
I have no desire to order yet until it is fleshed out and optimised.

Also, I have no idea, other than greed as to how they thought they would get away with releasing it in this mess.

My First successful FPS in EDO, you just have to get to high ground where they can't get to you. Then its easy.

I would wait a bit more, its less bugy now but performance is still an issue.

Sounds like a plan to me, I'm still trying to work towards my Fleet Carrier anyways (4bn ish to go).

Its a bit frustrating as I've noticed most of the settlements buying mined materials at the highest prices are Odyssey only.

@humbug, how are you finding it now after all these patches that FDEV have released? Is it worth shelling out for yet or maybe worth a bit longer wait?
It plays fine for me now since I upgraded my card from a 1080 to a 3080, which probably isn't surprising! Dont get random crashes any more (was due to SLI), lag (very low FPS to the 1080) and while there are a few bugs they arent game breaking.

Im still running a GTX980 with the intention to upgrade to a 3080 in the future, unfortunately i cant see it happening any time soon :( Horizons works fine but Odyssey might give me some issues.

2070 Super, that is not a crap GPU, 50 FPS with 99% GPU load, mental..... 1440P

The worst part were the buildings on fire, I couldn't move in there. The rest wasn't too bad though, playable but frustrating.

I think if you need an RTX 3080 (which you realistically can't buy right now anyway) to get smooth 60fps performance in a game at 1440p then that's an indication of some serious optimisation issues!

Yes I agree. As Horizons ran so well for me on a 1080 I really didnt expect such an issue with Odyssey. But hey, I needed an upgrade anyway and got lucky with a card locally. But for sure a 30 series shouldnt have been necessary

Completely agree with this. Unfortunately more and more games are badly optimised these days and run poorly even on recommended hardware.

Has anybody tried Odyssey since patch 5 was implemented?

I watched a video by Dave from DownToEarthAstronomy this morning showing a massive FPS increase by playing about with some settings in the graphics options.

Not yet, still too salty over the whole VR issues and general mickey taking by FD, has put me off even loading Odyssey at all, I had low expectations but they sure exceeded them lol, it'll be a long time before FD see another penny from me and unless they pull off a Hello games style redemption it's likely to be never, can only imagine what Warhammer and F1 licence holders are thinking right now regarding their choice of dev company.
