*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

You're not wrong, it has been an absolute shambles of a rushed rollout, I still enjoy playing Horizons but like you say, don't want to spend my money on something that isn't even close to 100% ready. I might be able to hold off until its discounted in the Steam store. If they manage to improve gameplay significantly I might be tempted to part with my cash a bit earlier.

Has the horizons base game performance been sharted by Odyssey? As I am thinking about jumping back in for another stint but can't be arsed if performance is dire.

Not yet, the plan is to roll the tech out to horizons at the end of the year when Odyssey comes to consoles, still fully expecting them to cancel the console release myself, base horizons barely runs on a PS4, no way is the update going to.

I'm still playing the base Horizons, granted there were a few hickups at the start when Odyssey was released but they've all been rectified now. I'm playing on a GTX980 and not noticed any performance issues.

Continuing the grind for a Fleet Carrier which has been made harder now mining prices rarely jump above 800k p/t

@Dano @Noakesy85

I hopped on and all still seems like it was before.
Not sure I will be staying though, as soon as I left the station I knew why I was not playing anymore. I really wish there was more to do.

Also have SCB's been nerfed? I have a macro set up to launch heat sync and fire the SCB. However, the SCB was not firing. Checked the module panel, and the key assignment and nothing???

Other than minor tweaks and the massively disappointing fleet carriers nothing has changed with the Horizons client for a number of years which is why the utter let down of odyssey is such hit. SCB's should work as before, I don't recall any changes to them.

Yeah, most of the folk I know who are still playing the game have reverted back to running it in Horizons as the perofrmance in Odyssey is dire. I haven't played it myself since the launch week as it runs so badly. Either they need massive optimisations (>2x performance increase) or I need a new GPU bfeore I'll bother with it again.

Frustrating as I'm well above the minimun reccomended hardware for it as well. I'll be utterly amazed if they can get the game running on a base level 2013 ps4/XboxOne as it barely runs on a mid-range gaming PC from a couple of years ago as things stand just now. There's folk rocking ultra high-end £2000-3000 PCs that can barely get a stable 60fps at 1080p/1440p in many sections of the game. The latest patch hasn't improved things either by the sounds of it.

So disappointed in Frontier for releasing the game in this state as an allegedly finished product and have basically ruined what for many was their favourite space trading/combat game. I don't know if Frontier will have an Elite player base left by the time they 'fix' the game for console release later this year the way things are looking at the moment. Plus, as mentioned by @Dano , I'm equally super salty about them dropping official VR support despite promising it  Honestly, I'd refund the game if I could as it's clear we've been sold an early access alpha on the basis that it was a finished product....

Id love to go out and explore in this game but theres nothing to find except barren rocks

It's even worse now in odyssey, what used to be purely procedural generated terrain for the planets and moons you could land on and while at ground level they might have appeared to the same barren rocks, they were at least all unique, something that is no longer true and they all share the same base tiles for generation enabling you to find the exact same features where ever you go.

Oh dear sounds like a downground, this game could have been amazing if they would have just followed the ideas in the DDF part of the forum. I think the vision was there but Frontier do not have the talent to pull it off.

I'd love to go explore and be able to find Thargoid/Gaurdian structures, maybe find a system with 30+ panetary bodies and resource rings to colonise. Being able to set up your own 'MOB' in a system of your own would be awesome.

I would love to think we could build stuff however that would not be possible within the universe. Can you imagine the issues they would have with rendering? Also, it would have to be based on Grind as there is just so much money floating about and it would be unfair to newer players. A bit like fleet carriers. Pretty much out of reach for most players who have not been playing for hundreds of hours grinding or cheesing exploits and glitches back in the day.

Given the total mess that was the launch of odyssey, I am not sure there is much more frontier can do with the game. Killing VR was a stupid move and does little to keep players who had invested in the tech.
I think I only have 600 hours in it, so I am not as greatly invested as others.

I appreciate what you're saying, I only have 444 hours in it so far. I can only play for an hour in the evening so doing the grind for a FC is relentless.

I'm currently collecting engineering mats so i can outfit my Type10 for AFK pirate hunting in low rez sites. Not ideal but core hunting isn't paying as well as it used to.

I feel that FD moved most of the development team off Elite a few years ago and those who are still working on the project arent getting the support they need. Maybe Rollercoaster Jurassic planet is far easier to make so they concentrate on that.

I started playing Planet Zoo for a short while, occasionally go back to it when i want a break from Elite, that's another of Frontiers titles that seems to work really well without too many hickups.

100 devs though, or so we've been assured on more than one occasion lol...

Well, they currently have a workforce of 600 but I just don't think Elite is where the money is for them anymore and as such they need to move on.

The ongoing sales performance of a larger portfolio, with Jurassic World Evolution: Complete Edition on Nintendo Switch and Planet Coaster: Console Edition on PlayStation and Xbox having released in November 2020, as well as chargeable content packs in H2 FY21 for Planet Zoo such as the Aquatic Pack (December 2020)  Revenue in December, which is typically the biggest month of the year for videogames sales, was stronger than expected, with base game units and paid downloadable content (‘PDLC’) selling well across all four major franchises

Seeing as elite ongoing paid content is bobbleheads and paint jobs.... there is no impetuous to keep throwing money at it.

The anticipated success of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, a major new era for Elite Dangerous, planned for release on PC before the end of this financial year

And that was all that was said. No sales prediction and "anticipated" does not sound like a great endorsement of their own product.

However, they are still very cash rich so I am not sure they will be going anywhere soon.
