*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Okay, so my thoughts:

Graphically, the game looks much better with the new lighting and planet tech, and it's cool to see your ships up close etc. The rest, fairly meh, with the combat zones really being unbearably boring and bringing my 3080 to 20fps in places.

I tried to refund it on steam, and apparently my 590hrs in elite are over the 2hr limit to refund odyssey. So here's hoping that it gets better quickly since I'm stuck with it.

I'd be annoyed if I'd paid for it, but I've got a lifetime pass and have waited 2 years already, so waiting a bit longer for performance increases won't kill me :P

It's a complete mess, everybody who defended the alpha because 'it's an alpha' have been proven categorically wrong lol.
To be fair to them, generally they have been right most of the time. Games like this do improve post-Alpha/Beta and FD are pretty good about patching the **** ups... There's already been another update (3.7.05, if that means anything to anyone) released and I'm upgrading it out right now, as it happens.

This isn't Cyberpunk, so I expect they'll get around to fixing everything quite soon.

I wouldn't Consider FD remotely good at patching issues. It took them years and years of the playerbase grumbling about things to make balance changes around missions, incoming, bounty payouts etc. I'm not sure whether the game is in a good place with that now, but even if it is - it shouldn't have taken years to fix some of these issues.

Surely you can challenge that, the clock for DLC should start ticking when you play the parent game following purchase?

I've just returned from the Frontier forums and the ongoing angst has convinced me to wait for the Xmas sale on this one. 50% off, hopefully patched and optimised. There's also little point trying this on my GTX1050 while my GTX1650 is still away in RMA hell... think the vendor/MSI returns are located up at Beagle Point!

Still frustrated by the performance especially given how well (solid 60fps+@1440p) it ran on my computer pre-odyssey.

Now it's 20-30fps in the on foot sections and around 50fps in flight :(

I briefly caught yamiks stream yesterday and could not believe the FPS he was getting.
I was never going to preorder or order day one as I remember Horizons all too well. Looking at what was happening yesterday I am not sure there will be a quick fix to this.
They should have delayed the launch and done a lot more testing. 30 FPS on a 2080ti in a busy area is just not acceptable in any PC game. Especially one with the lack of detail that is elite.

Don't forget this was supposed to have been out last year and prior to that there had been literally no content excepting the utterly disappointing fleet carriers for a couple of years while they worked on it.

DLC getting absolutely bombed on Steam. Haha. I'd say I was surprised, but ever since the DLC was announced I had zero confidence in it being good.

Yep.

Looks much better in certain situations sure, in other places that have looked pretty good since launch it's an utter mess, it's quite apparent that they've done little to no checking on what their changes would do to existing assets.

Uhm... you did pay for it, that lifetime pass wasn't free, sure if you got it during kickstarter it was cheap, some of us paid £120 for it though.

hahahahahahah, this if FD we are talking about here and no they were not even a little bit right.

If 1 ton of personal weapons is ~3500cr, why does it cost 250,000cr to buy one gun?

At least they dropped the separate currency for it... lol.

Ok so I got a mesage that I need to update and select "high priority" in the options which I did.
But nothing is happening despite signing in, unlink/linking steam etc.

Any ideas?

I did see a post where a few people had a lot of joy from deleting their graphics configs. Not had a chance to try it myself yet though

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried that and updating to the latest Nvidia driver but it hasn't made any noticeable improvement unfortunately!

Hopefully Fdev can continue optimizing the game engine to get the performance closer on the new Odyssey graphics engine to where it was in Horizons.

Does anyone on here have a Geforce RTX 3000 series card? How's the performance on them at high/ultra 1440p/4K?

@Cavallino if you have the Steam version and just getting the message on login that you need an update and you can do nothing except close the launcher.

The fix for me was to uninstall Elite then reinstall it.
No progress is lost as thats all stored on steams servers.
On restart Steam and Frontier were automatically linked and Elite and Odyssey were both installed and started without further issue.

As expected... They have taken what was already a polished turd and turned into diahoria, the majority of us expected it.

Is it that bad? I played the tutorial and I thought... hmm wow nice to see the shaps upclose and run around them and do some missions and all that....

Is that all it is really?

@Shac, cheers bud. I ran the launcher manually from the steam folder and actually that did the job.

Even though they've separated Odyssey from Horizons they've still somehow managed to royally **** up Horizons too.

Tell me about it. I was rank grinding the imperial ranks and after the odyssey release my ranks vanished from the info tab and they stopped offering promotion missions. Proper irritating.

Yep, this is why it is just steaming pile of poop slowly going cold. If FD manage to pull this out of the bag in the next 6 months I will be amazed.

My ranks got screwed up too, Federation Rank went to 'Admiral' and Imperial to 'King'. Tried to buy a Cutter but it won't allow me, but follow-on missions are available and after doing one I got a notification of advancement to 'Baron' and Summerland permit but the screen still shows 'King'.
