*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I do think the whole Thargoid arc over the past year, and especially the last couple of months, has been fantastic. But it's not paid content so I totally get why you'd be hacked off about that.
The thargoid content has been great from what I can see, sadly it's been absolutely messed up by the fact of having such a high demand for access to it and when taken into consideration with the pre-built AX ships that are for purchase with real money it comes across as something of a money grab by FD which in my eyes is somewhat shady. If they had made the decent AX modules a little easier for players to get hold of 6 months ago it would have been a different matter, though it will depend on what they do with the thargoid content going forward from now as well.

I'm just going to jot down every single thing I don't understand down, then bulk paste it in here and wait for @bigmike20vt or someone else to tell me what to do, might actually get into it then.

Biggest thing I need to get on and do is get a keyboard tray thing so my joysticks aren't a hindrance as I have them in line with my armrests on my chair, so then the desk feels a stretch to get to.

Honestly, I think they made AX combat really accessible over the last year, and I'm not talking about the prebuilt ships. Basic but perfectly decent AX weapons and modules have been available for credits for quite some time, as have the modules required for Titan bombing or pod rescues. They were initially gated by esoteric materials or unlocks, but for the last 6 months or more anyone who wanted to do AX content was easily able to try it out. There are loads of posts on Reddit from new players, or old players who never did any combat, loving getting involved in Titan bombing or AX combat in general.

Sure, you couldn't be "the best of the best" with the off-the-shelf stuff, and that's as it should be. Progression is important in games like this, and you should have to work to be top tier, but nobody was excluded from any of the Titan-based gameplay or station defence combat over the last few months.

The ARX store prebuilt ships are more about skipping engineering than they are about the AX modules. None of the prebuilds are even close to optimal, but they're a decent "pay to skip some effort" option for people who want to try a playstyle without investing the time into engineering.

Sure they made it easier, but it's far cry from being at all accessible without spending a big chunk of time outside of the game trying to sift through the chaff for a reasonable setup and knowledge of what to do, maybe the veteran players know what to look for but for any newcomers it's an complete mess as noted by others.

I had arx credits I assume from the time I spent playing? Got a bobbly planet and paint for my eagle. I always start with an eagle so assume it was due to whatever I backed all those years ago.

Got a fresh save as I never got anywhere, might just mess around a bit but when my sticks arrive I'll have to go through all that joy again setting up binds etc. Guess I could start with the VA ones in the meantime.

I wonder if they will give away free ARX over XMas again like they have the last few years and if they will up the amount since the 'adjusted' prices.

well the titan stuff (which looks like could be over for a little while now) i am new to as well.... this titan was the 1st one i dabbled with and some of it i have not mastered yet (using the xeno scanner and the analysis limpets to take caustic tissue samples for the caustic emitters in the maelstrom i failed dismally on and lost 1 ship and massively damaged a bunch of others.....

however imo the best thing to do is to start at the top and do the simple stuff 1st to ease in.

the mission board is good, and initially keep away from illegal ones, ones which warn of being difficult and also dont do wing ones either. then tweak controls whilst doing that stuff. once you have a set of binds you are happy with you should back up your binds file as sometimes they get wiped in updates.

btw whilst i have the old engineering on my engines and stuff, for titan bombing my build was far from optional and i only used titan fighting weapons and caustic sinks which were on sale on the rescue ships... but i still managed top 25% without spending too much time playing

Maybe the free Anaconda gold wireframe paintjob they are giving away in the Arx store right now is instead of the daily free Arx. So a paintjob which looks pretty naff IMO on a ship which I personally hardly use. If you didn't know about this free paintjob by the way you have to go to the Arx store direct I believe, don't know if it can be redeemed in game livery store.

top tip.... actually make sure you still need to unlock the equipment you are gathering resources for before spending hours getting them :D

whilst i knew i could buy caustic sinks now, i thought it was a temporary thing, i thought the blueprint was still locked so last night spent (admittedly i enjoyed it) 90 mins getting all i needed to unlock the blueprint at one of the titan wrecks.

it was the 5 caustic tissue samples which took the time. i then flew the 10 jumps back to Hutner to unlock the blueprint and........... it was already unlocked!. oops!.

its no big deal BUT because of my limited cargo space i was unable to fit in all the meta alloys i saw floating about......... and this is an issue because 1 thing i certainly do want to unlock is the thargoid bobblehead - which needs 1 thargoid heart (found that and have it in my hold) and 10 meta alloys. i will go back over xmas and collect the rest of the meta alloys i need and get that unlocked. (cosmetics earned in game are the ones i like not ones bought on the cash shop)

on my shopping list now then is

meta alloys (to unlock bobble head and iirc some of the reinforcement stuff)

tactical core chips (for use in the protection against thargoid anti guardian field effect)

titan drive component - which i foolishly sold one last night not knowing its utility (used when purchasing a pre engineered SCO drive - i have some of those drives but i would like more :) )

btw inara is wrong.. it says there is no use for tactical core chip however there is it is at used by Ram Tah.

Turns the anaconda into the Mankiniconda IMO

Seems I might have been a bit of a bounty hunter.......

Been meaning to sort that for bobblehead while now.

Not been in game since the start of the year - I'm on a planet in the black doing some exo-biology. Are the Hearts in the wreckage? Maybe time to get back in the pilot's seat and source the new FSD's.

Thanks

Anywhere that isn't in populated space ie; 'the bubble' as it is known.

OIC, thought I was really missing something there, apparently I was!

Can someone explain this, how are you supposed to assassinate someone without dealing lethal damage? I'm not doing illegal missions anyway per advice given but that baffled me.
