*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

I will try watching it again later but I am finding it too heavy going tbh. I have found a shorter more succinct video that is a bit more approachable. I have never done any thargoid play and was quite keen to give it a go on this last titan.
The main thing you want to pick up first is how to run from the two types of thargoid interdictions, because if you go in without knowing this part and being confident how to do it, you definitely will get caught and easily killed by the thargoid ships multiple times and you'll probably want to give up after a short while. I would say that once you have got that down, since you are totally new to it, then you'll be ok to get in to the titan instance fairly ok each time if you use the cold ship guide, but if you start to get attacked just run for it.

Clearly late to this but I see you can now just buy ships with ARX, good to have the option maybe but part of the fun of any game for me is the grind to get better stuff.

The grind has gone? What so i don't need to engineer anymore?
You still need to engineer your ships for real end-game content, but materials are much, much easier to come by. For this current AX stuff they're bending over backwards to make sure that people can put a viable ship together without any grinding, so they can at least get to experience things like titan bombing and station evac/defence.

I agree. however I just ignore the Arx shop..for me the only ships in game are the ones I earn in game. arx I use for cosmetics only.

elite has hugely accelerated the progression in game over the last few months so I just don't think the arx ships are needed

I've bought the Type 8, the Mandalay and the Cobra Mk V because I'm very happy with what FDev have done with Elite over the last year, and they can't keep doing it if people don't give them money. It's nothing to do with them being "needed", and I didn't buy the kitted-out versions, just the basic ships that I'll fit out myself.

Fair but I don't do micro transactions. If they delivered what they said they would initially that may have helped them in the long term.
And also if they didn't release updates that weren't particularly welcome either (Odyssey).

that is fair enough you do you etc, note I didn't tell him what to do, just what I do.... because like him I share his view that (for me) part of the enjoyment in elite IS unlocking the stuff (that others call grind).

I have already given FD more cash than I have ever paid for any other game so I have done my bit on that front. any more money from me will be for a major expansion like those detailed in the early days. (full ships crew with back stories and missions, or ship interiors with stuff to do, full atmospheric planetary landings, water world content (and a moray star boat) or EVA and space derelict boarding etc.. stuff which would be a paid major expansion like horizon or Oddy....
(technically I have already paid for any expansions but if they do one of the above I will throw more cash their way)

failing that I will just enjoy the game as is and earn everything in game.

to be honest personally I don't really enjoy stuff bought for cash. before arx I bought some paint jobs but they mean nothing to me as they were not earned in game.

OTOH I am quite looking forward to getting my 1st thargoid ship kit for attacking a titan as that was done in game.

They need to produce better content again for me to ever give them more money after the LEP bait and switch they pulled, the recent stuff is a start and much needed after the absolute mess that was Odyssey, but it grates that having paid £120 for the LEP there has been nothing of value for it since Odyssey and only 2 expansions in total, where is the early access to the new ships? Oh that's right they want more money for them after they changed the process and ignored the spirit of the LEP.

wow so the CG is over, the last Titan is toast, 24 hrs before it explodes. i hope to log in tonight and go and do some grave robbing to get the otherwise impossible to get materials from the dying titan.

I was paid out 1 billion credits (or will be when i log in) combine that with the , probably 50 million i earned in bonds (after ship loss costs) along with the 5 is it fully engineered SCO drives and a unique thargoid inspired ship kit for my chieftain iirc, it has been quite the profitable jaunt (mind you some do say there is money to be made in war!)

I hope that is not the list we see of the titan thargoid content, or the thargoid fighting in general, it has been great fun i only wish i had gotten to it sooner rather than waiting till the last titan as there were another 7 ship kits up for grabs that i missed out on.

Now that the Thargoid assault has been thwarted, the obvious next step is going to be to go on the offensive, i.e. find the clues as to where they come from and how to find their home world(s).
Bearing in mind how long it's taken to deal with the Thargoids so far, it's probably worth assuming that it's going to require a long hike to get to them, with the probabilities that some station creation along the way will be needed.

its a shame there are not more options to do with the thargoids..... in elite 3 1st encounters there were 2 options on how it played out with them. the 1st was to develop the toxin which wiped them out, which ultimately is the history which is canon in elite dangerous..

however in my version in my playthrough i made peace with them, they didnt get wiped out and they gifted me my own thargoid war ship i could fly about in.

for obvious reasons FD chose to go for the aggression history BUT it would be nice to offer non combat interactions with them as well. lore wise iirc there are 2 main factions of thargoid we know about, 1 the fighting ones and another who are peaceful.

it would be nice if FD developed the peaceful side as well to give it a bit more complexity than blind pew pew imo (as fun as that is)

I still think zombified human thargoid infiltrators on settlements will be coming in the near future. They probably shelved that as a thing for the thargoid war as it played out to this point, basically because it seemed so obviously telegraphed that's what the story was implying that they felt they had to save it for later. Maybe that will involve temporary thargoid ship combat as part of that.

I also don't feel they've done much to cater to new players. I mean you can argue that the ship boosts are, but I mean I shouldn't have to spend most of my time researching how to do stuff on the internet because the game does little to guide me.
I'm not saying every game needs excessive hand holding but has to be something.
That's partly why I think I never really got into this game because every time something happened I'd have to alt tab go and research how to do stuff and repeat this for just about every aspect of the game

Not played for years.... like since Odyssey came out - every time I go back to playing it, like starting up the game and thinking what should I do I end up just coming out of the game cause I'm completely lost now :(

ideally i think it is good to wing up with a friend who knows what they are doing.... it is true the in game tools are a bit rubbish, but imo its worth persevering with.

other than the plant biology stuff personally i dont do any of the onfoot stuff, never say never and all that but as it does not support proper VR then what makes elite special is not in that section.,

It's almost impossible to forge ahead without a 2nd monitor running a load of 3rd party apps to help track biology, routes, materials, engineers etc...

Getting into a squadron really helps as the knowledge is immense and at least you wont have to grind credits.

haha, I know the feeling ! :D

since my controls changed earlier this year, i cba now
if I was to sort out my controls again, id be playing it now

when I load up I'm like "where am I?" "what do i need to be doing?"

takes me a day or two to get it back into my head again lol

Yeah, if they're not giving LEP buyers immediate access to the new ships that's well out of order.

I do think the whole Thargoid arc over the past year, and especially the last couple of months, has been fantastic. But it's not paid content so I totally get why you'd be hacked off about that.
