Was flying around, trying to find the best price for ore and I ended up in Ross 154. Didn't realise I was so close to Sol.
So much nostagia from playing Frontier!.

Been doing a few bit of mining with my Python and I now have 240mil to my name.
Can anyone recommend a decent PvE ship I can kit out and work on engineering with?

what do you like doing?
the python is THE best medium multirole PVE.ship it can do everything, has teeth for combat, good cargo storage and can land on mediums.

I only PVE and rather than just use the python I try to spec specialist ships (more so that I see a different cockpit from time to time)

I use a vulture for black box missions, only needs 4 tons cargo, has enough teeth for come combat if bad guys try it on. it it is super agile so can scoop and run if you don't want to engage

I have a tanked up federal gunship for RES type combat as well as kill pirate missions .... it's not necessarily the best choice but I wanted to have a dabble with ship launched fighters and this was before the krait.

the ultimate master of all trades however is the anaconda. it can do everything PVE except land on medium pads. If am feeling lazy I use this, it is close to indestructible in PvE and in the unlikely event things do go south doesn't get mass locked by much so can jump out. I try not to use mine however unless I actually want to feel like I have an oil tanker in space. in VR it's view our of the canopy is a little limited.

for exploration I used to use an asp. it's also a fab in system taxi with its huge jump range.... however I have got bored with that so have specced a phantom for this too. they are pretty close to each other.

for mining you have lots of options. I use a clipper. not because it is great at it but because I was struggling to find a purpose.

I use a T9 for trade, and it makes a very easy top 50% in any trade CG.

for landing on planets and collecting mats I have an adder. again not because it has any specific advantage for that but because I am trying to find a use for my ships.

TLDR with engineering most ships can do something so decide what you want to do. if you just want 1 ship tho... for me it's the python or anaconda (depending on medium pad access needs)

Advise me on which sheild to buy for my Type 9 transporter ?

6A or 6C bi weave ?
I use a 5A. never tried bi weaves, I have a shield booster on it. it's no good for fighting, only really for heavy landings and kissing the letter box walls and I would not go to a CG in open with it. I put a mine launcher on the back for if I run and have engineered.(heavy duty) light weight armour on it.

I had to check. I've got a 5D on my type 9, engineered with Enhanced Low power and Hi-Cap. I've also got a couple of boosters on the utility mounts. The 5D is lighter, meaning slightly greater jump range, which in turn might make progress in a CG swifter or a mission run more practical timewise.

As @bigmike20vt said, it's not there for fighting, just to absorb the occasional knock and makes interdictions (either pirates or mission related) much less likely to result in hull damage. The idea being it will last just long enough before dropping that the FSD will have cooled down and I can jump.

The ship would undoubtedly go pop against any PVP ship (my mediocre combat skills would also be a factor in that).

I've also put point defence on the top and bottom.

Some things I don't understand.

Can't you see other commodity markets remotely? I wouldn't have took 122 Tritium if I knew they only wanted 1 unit lol. Also on the galaxy map, I've plotted a course to a market of a star system, arrive there but then there's no longer a course plotted. Scour the system map to find it manually, but this location shown in the galaxy map selling commodities just isn't there. What's that about? They are unusual names. Not ending in hub, ring, station etc. One was 'Wan's Exploration', the other was 'something something Industries', medical facility etc.

And I've alt tabbed a fair bit because the information just doesn't seem to be there? So I want to know the size of the landing pads the station supports, but this doesn't even tell you in the system map?? I could only find out when I'm in the system enroute via the left panel when you click your destination.

Did play a fair bit Friday. Got a Type 9, first maiden voyage and got destroyed by Zanthax, or something like that. It was a 13 million profit single jump trade with constant supply/demand so I wasn't surprsed it was camped. Crumlbled to solo play and made 200 million.

Thinking of buying an Imperial Cutter and checking out mining, as it's probably a more fun way to make money than grinding the same route?

My type 9 has been good so far
I think a thargoid killed you
I've never encountered one yet, but if I do, I want to be in fully engineered combat ship otherwise you've got no chance

As for mining
Python is what I use, smaller and more agile , plenty of space too

I was where you guys were, ED engrossed me, I play casually a couple of hours a night (kids use it before I can play) and now I have a fleet of 13 ships. All the largest fully engineered and 3 fighting class fully engineered ! I'm almost at 2 billion again... Bored now need another Big big hunt again to draw me in...

Mining, passenger missions (Robigo mines) and bounty hunting is where I found most pleasure but doing different missions brakes up the normal.

Good luck CMD's

Some of the sites don't have landing capacity, they are mission based location's or exploration, they may consist of a rescue, brake out or Dara scans.

Regards you being blown up, it maybe when you take out a mission it will state if you are to be interjected and it will also state if you're under ranked meaning the pirates chasing you will be overpowered (high powered weapons) to your rank. You'll stand no chance of your packing a low end Shield generator...
I could be completely wrong but it may help ?

What I do if I am interdicted is bring up a star nearby system and jump straight away otherwise as you say you are mass locked.. Mass lock is not an issue and you can escape. Unless that has been nerfed.

Can you not pick a fight with other players? Surely there must be some at your level out there still playing?

I think it was 'PvP' that killed me. Took an age to wittle away my defences, let me go at 12% hull, only to interdict me again and finish me off. As if they were toying.

The places I can't plot a course to once in the system, but are shown on the galaxy map, are Odyssey locations.

indeed.... for me my 1st 200 hrs in the game were brilliant, i would change that for no one, this was from Gamma onwards where money earning was glacial, and i made rules to slow it down even more.

back then in my sidey i did actually go from E rated up 1 level at a time, and it took ages to even get new weapons...

i was in my sidey for 25rs+ gametime ....

the game was at its best then imo. i am so sad that FD let the reigns go on the economy... i know my view is a minority view and am not trying to tell anyone else they are wrong or change their mind.......... but i wish FD had kept a tight lid on earnings, but then kept everything in the game earnable via ingame credits, so if you cant be bothered going getting materials then you could buy them instead.

back in kickstarter even all cosmetics were going to be linked to gameplay and earnable with ingame credits............................................ but to make money in the cash shop FD were going to sell credits. i respect why FD caved to player feedback on this (this was before release) but i wish the game was like that.
