The *Official* Eve Online Thread

For some strange reason everytime i go up against someone, my heart rate goes through the roof, almost feels like its gonna explode or something, its an awsome feeling.....but its only a game...why oh why...but its wicked.

oh and congrats on your first PVP experience, let it be the first of many.

It's the fight or flight response, I think. Even thought you KNOW it's a game, even though you KNOW it's not real, you treat the icons onscreen as your personal property, and and your body reacts accordingly when in a fight/flight situation.

This is the key to all games, the physiological and psychological responses that keep us playing, and hence the term online addiction. Your body becomes accustomed to the endorphin rush that you get when having got to that next stage, got past that boss, cleared that room, and you keep playing to get your next hit. It's also why when you fail, you get such a downer off it., because you don't get that rush from succeeding.

The best games have lots of little 'hits' like this, Half-life, Half-life2, et al, and with online gaming, because we're effectively in control of the situations out avatars get into, we can control the level of risk, and therefore reward, that we experience.

That's the science bit done with. Even though I know all this, it's still a MAJOR rush to get my first kill, and I'll be going out hunting tomorrow :)

Same here, my heart rate goes through the roof, I thought it was just me :D

Nice one Archangelus by the way, it's a great feeling isn't it? :)

Exactly the same here, only been three instances of it though...

First was me in a Thorax doing a mission in aunenan (was about a year a go and i was a pitiful noob), warped to gate, *bang* *bang* *pop*

Lost my pod as well :(

Second was with my alt in jan... fine going in (checked for nasties) collected stuff at the station, had a smoke, went to warp out... you get the idea...

Third (and i'm proud of this one) time was in amarr space, running missions with my alt in a rupture... 0.4 system, warped to the gate, someone locked me in a geddon, they started shooting, I hit the MAR and the AB, got halfway to the gate with the tank working nicely, they warped out cos the sentry guns had slapped them silly..

adrenalin rush fun :)

Im just back after a long long break, is there any way of speeding up the length of time it takes to train a skill other than by getting implants. I need to train Industry V in order to let me start training for the mining barges, but its going to take 60 days+ to train industry V, never mind how long it take to train mining barge to V. Perhaps i'd be better forgetting about it and just training battleship.

Melchy do you have the learn skills? if not get them i.e. iron will & spacial awarenes, get them up to lvl5 then train the advanced learn skills. implants will help if you can get them but at 45mil+ each dont think you'll get them easily.
You may also want to get some of the cheaper implates, I.e. the ones that giver you 1 or 2 Plus to your attributes they go for about 1-5mil of the op of my head.

Melchy, check on the market and under the skills portion of it look for "learning skills" these will enable you to increase your attributes and hence speed up training.

Apologies if you already know this (said you had been on a long break)

60 days!? That can't be right
Industry is a rank 1 skill, shouldn't take more than a week to train from 4 to 5. Just train up your learning skills and you'll be fine.

I played for ~10months before true PvP :)

I know of a few players who have been fully active since beta and haven't even fired a single shot at a player, or received any. :)

Been playing about 6 months now and am neck deep in pvp, although i had zero exposure to it for months. Enjoying the rush now :D

Thats what it says when i try to train it, i'll train some of the learning skills first and try out some of the other suggestions, thanks guys. I've been away over 2 years.

Gallente Industrial Ship is a Rank 4 skill to train to lvl 5, or it is in my case.

Can't understand that, you'd have to have negative attributes for it to be that slow
Unless you mean Gallente Industrial rather than Industry, although 60 days would still be a long time, even for a rank 4 skill...

For industry lvl 5 to train, youd need Intelligence of 1 and Memory of 2 for it to take 58 days but its not possible to start with attributes that low, must be a bug. Try going into the eve folder on your computer, find the "Cache" folder and delete it, then reload the game and see if that makes a difference
