WTF is happening on the Eve-O forums atm?

It's like World War III over something called an IPO scam and people being refunded? I'm having a dumb moment and can't understand why so many people are risking heart failure over an issue.

Granted I know nothing about the situation.

a what what? i'm even more newbier :) you got any thread links?

Thinking about paying up for this but have a quick question about payment. This is what it says on eve online:

Your credit card gets charged €€19.95 for the account and the first month of game time. There after the subscription amount is automatically charged monthly. Your account gets activated immediatly.

So basically I pay about €40 straight up then €20 a month?

€19.95 to buy the game isnt is? then around €15 a month after that

You get charged €19.95 to purchace your account which included the first 30-days play.

from https://secure.eve-online.com/
For €19.95 [£13.64] you can create an account, including 30 days of game time.

You can then choose your price plan from one of the following

6 Months at a time - €71.70 (£49.05)

You can also purchace game time cards from the EVE Store, or game time codes for 3rd Party Retailers.

Ahh I'm beginning to understand now bigsteve cheers.

I might be wrong, but here's how I see the events :

For a long time scams have been a part of Eve and is not against *** rules as long as it's in game and within game mechanics (gist of what has been said my GMs/Devs in the past?)

IPO (still don't know what it stands for) have been going for ages, scamming people out of isk, this has all been fair, and within the rules so no compensation.

Now something happened, a GM was scammed? By a big corp, and suddenly found people being refunded? is this what happened?

IPO = Inital Public Offering

As far as I can understand it the person behind Janette setup a corporation called sky Vision Enterprises, this corporaiton published a business plan to buy T2 BPOs and produce the items.

After a number of the shares 25b's worth were sold, Janette replaced the business plan on the website with a flash animation telling people they are an idiot, essentialy saying that they were duped by a fake IPO.

Since then, people have petitioned it as an exploit (it is against forum rules to use the forums to promote a scam) and had their money returned, there seems to be a reasonable sized camp that agree with this decision and another camp that thinks that the money shouldn't be returned -- scams are a part of EVE.

I know the guy in question, and not only has he had the 25bn removed from his account, he's been sent 25bn into the red as well. He's said on vent though that the cash wasn't the reason for pulling this scam off, it was merely the thrill of managing to do it. He expected to have the money taken from him, but the crippling of his account was totally unexpected and in my and his opinions a little harsh, because that character is now effectively useless.

Im not going to repost a whole argument from the E-O forum onto here, but as a summary I think it is a joke that the money got refunded, and sadly shows the principles in this game going downhill. If one GM acted alone in the decision I would fire them on the spot, its pathetic and probably due to a GM's character being amongst those scammed.

The share transfer and the transfer of money took place in game, everything was under the game mechanics.

That is fairly standard practice from CCP, it is a way of disabling a character without actually disabling it.

His mistake was doing the IPO on the forums, rather than doing it entirley in-game.

the forum rules say they you are NOT alowed to use them for scams, ingame is fine, oog is not.
