The *Official* Eve Online Thread

m8 I know exactly how you feel. I asked the exact same question about our role when I first started.

What you think of House of Wax? watched it sunday and thought it was rubbish myself.

I'll catch you on email or chat to you in game a little later once I get home.

just got my first caracal last night seems pretty nice ship. Although think I need to learn up my missile skills as can only hit from 25km away.

Was doing a level 2 command mission silence the informant. Ouch those kestrels hit hard and from far away.

Kinda--im finding it hard understanding what our role is ... i logged on today to start a skill off and read the email about "would people (noobs) not enter 0.4 without an escort" ..was kinda funny but not terribly realistic.
i mean, who is gonna want to stop what they are doing and escort a noob somewhere;better yet ..i doubt people would actually ask for an escort as the good ole british reserve ensures people do not like to be a burden.

So, what do we have left to avoid losing our cruisers ? well theres the lvl 1 agent missions.... or mining in say, 0.6 or above.
oh wait we are at war! So really we can get destroyed absolutley anywhere.

iwill be on tonight so im sure ill get all the latest from dan or maybe tozmeister........

Well your role will become more substantial the more you play the the higher your skills become. We are not asking that you do not go into 0.4 for a couple of weeks, when you have had a little more experience of the game and how to use all tools necessary to prevent being ganked.
Its not a terribly unrealistic thing to ask because if the players dont gank you the npcs in the belts will chew your cruiser up in about 30 seconds, that is until you get active shield/armour hardners, even then it will be close. So its really for your own good, i dont mean to sound condecending in saying this but your not going to be able to gank anyone solo, your not going to be able to kill the npcs without serious difficulty, what is there left for you to do in 0.4?
As for the escort, there is nothing wrong with asking for an escort, personally i cant wait to get out of empire its driving me nutz. If you ever need an escort gimmie a shout and il come along.

Your right technically we can be ganked anywhere due to the wardecc, in reality there is about a 0.1% chance of you getting ganked as the war targets have either left their corp or havent logged in since it started.

Due to your charachters age, you both are kinda stuck in limbo at the moment, you dont have the experience to go into low sec confidently and you dont want to do missions, so your kinda leaving yourself at a loose end. yes missions suck and yes they are tedious, but they can teach you valuable information regarding your ships capabilities, tanking, offensive and damage, until you know those limits your going to struggle tbh. Im probably going to move back up to 0.0 by the end of the week, your more than welcome to come, but im sure you will find it even more of a chore, until you can get your skills up and start ratting on your own, sure you could do pvp but until you have a decent skill set there is no way you can pvp effectively as the hostiles come enmass and in tech 2 ships.

If you have any further concerns could you please post them on our internal forums, as that is the place that all members read and can offer advice different from mine, and a different point of view. il be on tonight so we can have a natter and find out where you guys want to be going in your eve career. Im sure most of the old heads in this thread will agree with the majority of stuff that i have said.

Dan is 100% right, when you first start out then you are going to be quite a juicy target for gankers in low sec as your skills and abilities are gonna suck (just the way it is, not saying you actually suck), these will improve in time and with advice from older players.

Missions are a very useful tool as you can learn how best to engage enemy ships, which guns are bestto use, what kind of tank (if any) to fit and how to get the best out of it.

I will disagree about 0.4 belt rats though... they're easy even with low skills ;)

o/t Dan, I tried looking for you last night but Toz said you were off gallivanting IRL..

Dunno if he passed on what I told him, but if you want the inside scoop, e-mail is in trust...

Dym

Ummmm am I missing something but where was the escort? Was he in hostile territory? Alone? In a freighter? Surely you wouldnt take a freighter out into hostile territory without at least a fleet?

Chase mentioned a corp mail we had due to a new player mining in 0.4 on his own and subsequently losing his ship and pod and Dan replied to that.

I wont mine on my own due to the fact that doing stuff on my own bores me shltless and the only reason I started playing the game was for the team work element.

Mail sent Dym.

Sure the rats in 0.4 maybe managable in a cruiser, but only if the player has experience of fitting the ship, which enemies scramble and what is primary target :)

Dunno about 0.4 with low skills - I remember the days when I had a couple of misllion SP's and got my first osprey - took it out into Pakkonen mining (0.4 system) I thought I was indestructible!! So I warped in, started mining and lo and behold some rats spawned, lowish end Guristas Kestrels with a Terrorist in tow, right I thought, I was told to scarper if I saw an enemy appear be it player or non-player so I aligned to warp and ..... OMFG I'm stuck!! Arghh taking damage, that's ok, quick shield boost - umm ... it's not helping! Ummm I'm still stuck on this damn asteroid!!! Arghh into structure come on!! Warp FFS!! Uh Oh! Intol Structure, still falling rapidly - please please warp.

"WARP DRIVE ACTIVE" with 13% Hull left lol

One and only time I have almost lost a ship to a 0.4 belt spawn hehe

But what's the biggest rat you get in a 0.4 anyway? I'm guessing that it's something like a 40k cruiser?

K.

So far, I've not been warp scrambled by an npc in any mission I've done (most of the level 1, 2, and 3, and some 4's), and certainly not in a belt. Sure, I've been webbed, but not scrambled. Then again, I tend to over do my ship configs for missions and ratting, just in case.

Is it overkill to run level 3's in a Domi with 12.5k armour? :)

yes its ok,
i did loads to get to lvl 4 quicker.

as for Scrambling NPC's, level 1 2 3 dont have them, iirc.
and only certain Level 4 have them also. although, be careful Some NPC's are sneeky,
they may have the Abilitu to scramble but not use it,
i have had on occation hard soem one do a mission, it got too much for them, warp out repair etc, warp back complete it, and next time they do it the frigates use there srcamble ability and pop goes the ship.

I'd heard that the bonus level of the level 3 angel ex was something specially difficult, but I gave it a shot in the domi, and the only problem I had, once I'd taken the frigs and cruisers out, was the battleship staying out of range of my guns, and firing torpedos that did serious EM damage. The Closest I've come to loosing the Domi was on a level 4 vengence mission. jumpgated into the second stage, and there were 5 webbing frigates 2k from the gate. Took me almost 3 minutes to turn to align with a warp point, and during that time, the cruisers and 2 battleships were closing in fast. I think I'd got 15 rats on me at that point, wasn't fun.

Anyone got any tips for soloing a level 4 duo of death mission? Setup is 5 250mm named rails, webber, painter, named recharger, 2 large batteries, large rep, med rep II, 2 rat specific hardeners, 2 1600mm plates, and a dark blood +22% to all resist mod, along with 12 beserker heavy drones. The duo close to within 5K, but there was also 3 sentry III's, and 2 rapid fire pulse units, and I'd get one bs down to structure, but I'd be almost down to structure myself, so warp out, repair, and by the time I get back, the rats have repaired.
