175 was a good card imo!

Loved the Weidman vs Machida main event - at least Weidman's now found out that he doesn't have the cardio for a 5 round war (even though Machida offered little in the first 3 rounds!?!?) - will only get better once he's sorted this out!

Ronda was, well, Ronda!! Complete domination and again those Judo throws!!

Did anyone catch Dana NOT being happy with Rogan over the spur of the moment question about Ronda replacing Aldo on the UFC 176 card?? Definitely not what he wanted to hear!!!

The other standout imo was a prelim match featuring Kevin Casey from the Jones vs Sonnen TUF - absolute beast!!!

Yes, hate to say it but he only took this fight for a pay cheque. Looked incapable of doing anything, don't know what that standing upright and throwing a jab once a minute game plan was all about either.

"B.J. Penn is the richest MMA fighter in the world with a net worth of $20 million. While only earning $2.65 million from fighting in the UFC, BJ Penn comes from a wealthy Hawaiian family that owns an extremely valuable real estate portfolio. Rumor has is that his family owns as much as 5% of the land in Hawaii and that Penn could be worth as much as $40 million personally".

Money has never been a motivating factor for BJ, his family are minted.

Frankie is an absolute beast at that weight class, hard to see BJ like that but Frankie is just too much for him.

On a side note, how embarrassing was it to see Derrick Lewis giving it the old 'strap' movement with his hands.

Not sure why Edgar vs BJ even got booked to be honest - it's not as if either of the first two fights were even that close and they both have little or no significance in their weight class(es)!!!

A little harsh on Edgar to say he has little or no significance in the FW division, he's only lost to Aldo and is ranked in the top 5.

Like I said it's all about money, to the guy who posted saying he's already loaded, well no ****.

There's a tonne of people in all professions with millions but they still go to work because generally the more you earn the more you want/need.

Fair point I guess, my main objection was them pairing him with BJ to be honest!

Love to see Edgar get back to the top actually!

I agree the BJ match up made little sense, the 2 fights previously weren't particularly close (especially the second) so a 3rd wasn't needed at all.

Bit surprised to see the UFC cancel UFC 176 on the back of just one injury!

I know Aldo is the champ but Jacare vs Mousasi would have been fine as the main event imo!

I guess neither have been training for a 5 round fight but surely that can't have been too much of an issue!!

So you think a guy worth around $40 million would risk his health and wellbeing for $150k? Thats $150k before trainers, management, camp costs, etc.

Ok dont get me wrong, he'll get PPV points on top of that but his earnings probably wont be above .5m for the whole thing.

BJ Penn owns a UFC gym in Hawaii. His family is incredibly wealthy - there is no chance he took that for the cash, and to say he did it for a paycheck is in my opinion completely disrespectful to one of the pioneers of MMA and the reason it is so popular today.

Penn thought he could beat Edgar - he had a point to prove. Frankie has two wins against BJ - lets be perfectly honest here, the first win is about as dubious as any victory gets. The majority of the MMA community scores the first fight to BJ, including many well respected MMA journalists. The second fight was not even close - it was a Frankie Edgar jab and move fest while Penn failed to close the distance. Nobody in there right mind had Frankie stopping Penn - the man with the granite chin.

The first fight wasn't close? On the judges scorecards it wasn't - but just about everybody I've ever spoken to about it has Penn winning it.

He landed more strikes, defended 12/13 takedowns, landed better strikes.

The second fight I'll give you, that was lopsided.

It's been confirmed that fights on Fox don't get PPV points, it's why the champs don't like fighting on Fox cards.

I agree with your post though; BJ fought because he has always relished a challenge and he (wrongly) thought he could avenge his previous losses, the paycheck was likely a matter of supreme indifference to him.

This is not even in the same vicinity as some decisions out there!

Machida vs Shogun I, Pearson vs Sanchez are the ones off the top of my head! Granted the first fight was not as clear cut as the 2nd but it was hardly robbery to the standard of these! (and others I'm sure!)
