***The Official Fifa 10 Thread***

Man Utd are good on FIFA 10 too- easily good enough to beat Barca, Chelsea etc- but it takes a bit of practice to figure out how to play with them. The usual changes I make to the starting lineup are Hargreaves at RB and Anderson in CM in place of Fletcher with the same tactics. Against the top top teams I set my defensive mentality to 'Defensive' as otherwise they keep too high a line and get exposed by pace.

International games definitely play different than league games.

Does anyone else know why is it, when you choose your team, and go to play online, using head to head, it always matches you up with a player that has also chosen the same team? It's a pain, cos one of you needs to change.. No-one wants to play the 'other' team...

They should also have an option for international.. cos nothing more annoying than trying 5-10 attempts to get an online game, and when you finally get a good match-up then the person switches to a league team..

I'd say in 80% of the games I do online, I end up against Barcelona. Having tried them (as above), I do think they are slightly better than most of the other teams.

I am planning on playing loads with Man Utd, as I do want to play with them and definately enjoy it more, as mentioned above they are quite hard to get the hang of, especially when you are against decent players using Barca/Chelsea/RealMadrid etc.

The problem I have at the minute is my finishing is rubbish a lot of the time, I dominate the other player for say, the entire first half, only to lose 1-0 due to them scoring a lucky counter attacking move.

My other problem using Man Utd (caused by my FIFA09 mentality) is that I usually do a lot better running at people with a fast player, which Berbatov isnt, but his finishing is good, so I need to get more practised of how to play him in properly :D

One More Solo - you made an interesting point setting your mentality to defensive, so the attacking controls (Defensive/Offensive) etc basically set how high of a line your players play on? Defensive would probably help my being counter attacked against problem quite a lot I would think :p

It is really quite annoying to play Barca over and over though as Andybtsn says, and this is the point of this thread really, to be able to win using the team you want to play as, not just because they have better players.

When you load up a head to head game the default options for both players tends to be your favourite team- when they actually load into the team selection it will then revert to their favourite team (on their side only obviously). If it stays the same then they have the same favourite team as you.

The major difference does seem to be the height of the line your defenders play. It perhaps makes a small difference to the amount and speed of players you commit forward but I find playing 'defensive' doesn't stop me scoring goals. Obviously it suits a more counter attacking style, which you need against the Barcas and Chelseas.

There is a greater emphasis on strength in FIFA 10 which makes the likes of Drogba, Ibrahimovic and Berbatov a bigger threat this time round. You can bulldoze your way through on the odd occasion with them, but their major asset is holding the ball up to play your other players in. With the pace of Rooney, Valencia and Nani in the Utd team, the trick is to play the ball into Berbatov, let him hold it up then play your runners in. Using L1+X for one-twos is much more effective in this edition of FIFA, and it gives the players with strength but not pace something to do!

I'm on PS3 by the way, PSN is gavinandchelsea.

Yeah I think holding the ball up with Berbatov would work quite well considering the strength factors as you say.

Glad you are on PS3 and I'll add you later on for a game sometime if you fancy it :p

Yeah, add me and we can have a game tomorrow, I'll probably be on in the afternoon sometime from 3pm.

Berbatov isn't quite as strong as Ibrahimovic- he is almost superhuman on the game sometimes- but he's definitely a useful player. I think you have to get used to playing with him because Utd's other options aren't up to much!

One thought I had was using Barca's default formation (which I think is pretty effective) for Utd but never really tested it out. The players match up pretty well- instead of Ibra, Henry and Messi you could play Berb, Giggs and Rooney. Stick Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson in midfield (Scholes isn't worth bothering with I find) with a back four of Evra-Vidic-Ferdinand-Hargreaves and you might be alright.

I like the default 442 though, just a thought if you're having no joy with it.

What you say about berba is true, however you could simply play as chelsea/Barca instead and just bulldoze through the defence with Dropba/Ibra instead.
Guarenteed to work at least a handful of times per game, enough to win comfortably anyway if your at least half competant at defending
