***The Official Fifa 10 Thread***

Does anyone feel any differences between Fifa 10 and the WC demo? A few people have said to me they thought that the defenders were better and more favoured in comparison to Fifa 10 but I honestly can't see any gameplay differences at all. There's been a lick of paint and the commentators have changed, seriously EA get some decent people involved and re-write the entire script. Andy Gray and Martin Tyler are okay, but give us an alternative like in Fifa 09 where you could get Tyldesley, although that said, Clive is really a dreadful commentator, everything he says is a ****ing cliche.

Anyway, back to the WC demo and in my opinion it feels slightly, slightly quicker than Fifa 10 but not exactly a world of difference, I haven't noticed anything new in the 3 games that I've played and I'll definitely not be picking it up. It feels like the Euro game did in comparison to Fifa 08. Not a world of difference in my opinion and this is quite the same as Fifa 10, good game, just not worth an extra £35 for what is essentially a lick of paint. Also, don't allow us to view every team in the demo if we can only select 2 of them, it's just annoying having to browse the list to find a team that doesn't have a padlock on them.

A lot of the gameplay differences are barely noticeable but they do add up to a better game of football. Little things like more intelligent players, keepers who don't charge off their line like headless chickens, and the ability to chest the ball on the move (and take it in different directions) just make the game better. I've qualified for the World Cup now through the Captain Your Country mode and I'm definitely loving it.

For me (5 games of the demo versus many hours on FIFA 10):

Feels more weighty - Im tempted to say slow (think I said that about FIFA 10 over FIFA 09)
Opponents see to be able to affect a pass more often now (get a touch to re-direct it so forth)
Headers actually feel like you control the direction now (still think power is pot luck) - defenders seem to be less likely to win them when its in their box.
Cut scenes are completely annoying when every dead-ball happens, I dont want to see the manager or crowd unless it is something thats worth adding tension or celebrating (so red card, penalty or goal)
Do like the celeb camera and the 360 it does on you - though you may not see my VPs name on his shirt now ;)
Not sure if I like the menus over FIFA10 - looks like the styling has gone backwards
Thanks **** the GKs stay in their box now
Any type of chip takes a bit longer - too long for me (especially when its Villa doing it)

That was annoying in the demo, all the teams available and only two you can play as!

I don't like the team selection method of moving round the globe! Talk about ball ache.

Still not buying this game though.

It does however fill a little bit of confidence up for Fifa 11 though.

I do apologise, one of the best improvements has been the keeper not rushing out of goal like his arse is on fire. Although I have a problem with this because every time I had a one on one you knew exactly what the keeper was going to do; stay on his line. In Fifa 11 they should maybe make the keeper randomly come off the line to mix it up a little. I have to say I haven't noticed any difference in the heading but I have noticed the chipping is a little bit different, not that I ever use chipping anyway.

I think Fifa would benefit from a system similar to NHL 10. In NHL you can go into the options and adjust sliders for various things, making the game pretty much as arcade or as simulation like as you want, it's very in depth and it really does change the game entirely to the players liking. I'm not just talking about Fifa where you can change how lenient the referee is and wether the game is "slow, normal or fast" I'm talking about more options to customize the game. People like anticonscience would benefit from this as they liked 9 but hated 10, this system would let them properly customize the game to make at least the single player playable for them.

Not sure if theyve fixed a few FIFA 10 pet peevs of mine:

When you chest the ball the other player is more likely to nick it off you after youve controlled it on your chest - made it pretty useless to chest most of the time
Throw in bug where if you are near their box you can quite easily hit the crossbar, leave the GK flapping and tap in
Diagonal long shots seem to be far more successful than they should be
Defenders always seemed to out pace you when you knocked it forward after controlling it with r-stick
Make the radar/score far more invisible (or more quickly invisible) when playing in those areas - sometimes Ive missed players just because theyve been partially hidden on that wing
Club: Dont make generic GKs 4ft 0
Club: Allow some progression in the skills of the random generics you are assigned (higher the level the better skilled they get? Or perhaps a function of what all your VPs skills are) - reward when you are a good club or even when you are on a good run of form (or even do what MW2 and give better generics when you are going on a bad run of form to help you out of it)...

EDIT: When changing the dpad slider - dont assume balanced means the defence are happy to sit on halfway line ready to be outrun to a chipped ball...

Will no doubt add more to this...

I'd rather he stay there than run off his line and give me an easy chip over him every time.

Chesting is much better in the new game, you can turn while controlling it to get your body between you and the defender.

Throw in bug where if you are near their box you can quite easily hit the crossbar, leave the GK flapping and tap in

Never knew about that, so never tried it to see if it's been fixed.

Unsure about this, I've out-paced defenders from that position in the World Cup game but that could just be because my player is a fair bit faster.

Never noticed the radar as an issue in the new game, so it's either been fixed, or I've never noticed it as a problem prior to this.

Did anyone ever successfully get the GK to run back after he ran out with double triangle? Ive never seen it in FIFA 10

Easily would say half the goals Ive conceded are due to the GK run out

@Davey Pitch - a lot of my issues are out of Club so may not represent standard SP play but I cant see why they wouldnt...

Same double tap never worked for me either. Davey, I'm not sure about the new CPU not rushing out ever. Some people who you play against online aren't very good at chipping or don't see the keeper until late so they end up messing the chance up. If they know that the keeper is staying on his line then they can easily just jog up to the penalty spot and blast one past him easy as you like.

Im getting annoyed just thinking of all the bugs in FIFA 10 :p

Don't worry in a month or two I'm going to start a thread with a wishlist for Fifa 11, that will annoy you even more. :p

The funny thing is I like the improvements they added to 10, the skilled dribbling etc, it's just such a shame that game ended up broken online. I bought 10 for the manager mode, but upon reading how games can be ruined by bugs that leave you millions/billions in debt I never even touched this game mode and solely played online.

Online against randoms was the worst experience for me, constant people quitting (yes I know I get the win, but it ruins the enjoyment when people quit after 1 or 2 goals.

It's difficult to explain if you haven't had it happen but the way the game influences your team was too noticeable for me. Imean one game as Chelsea they can pass around like the real Chelsea do, the next match or even late rin the same game they cannot even make a straight pass to a team mate two yards away! They end up playing like a league 2 team.

It's things like that, that ruined the game experience for me.

I think allowing the player to decide what the GK does is perfect (loved FIFA 09 for this) - leave him on the line/6 yard box and its up to the player to move him. If he doesnt its his own fault...

In Club I sometimes have to make the GK move just because I know hes chippable way before I know exactly where he is in relation to play

OMG dont get me started on Manager mode - I gave up with this and probably go back to the FIFA 09 version if I had the time. I want to play with a crap team (Accrington Stanley) but cant buy a useful player even though Ive got millions because either they arent interested (fair enough) or my wage budget is so small I will never afford anyone ever. I dont think that massively changes when you go up leagues or anything. Id like to stick with one club and get them into the EPL or something - Id rather not jump ship because of stupid restrictions that make it too much of a grind...

And please make the Search Player engine more felxible/useful!!!

The VP/XP mechanic doesnt work well in this mode either compared to FIFA 09 (though that was way too easy it worked well giving you points for good play etc) - accomplishments are great to say reward certain unique skills or maybe temporary boosts for a number of games (hmm I like this idea), but general play and XP points (and being able to assign them) worked better for both VP and your Manager team as a levelling solution...

Skilled dribbling/Skills - great idea but not the play changing mechanic I thought they would be. I find skills pretty much useless in FIFA 09/10 except for a rare few and the percentage play just means they are only used when you are comfortably winning/losing - basically means you only use them artifically and not part of your integral game. Found this to be the same issue with skilled dribbling, but this might be because I play Club which is far far faster than any other mode - has anyone done anything like those skills videos we saw last year?

Gah Im distracted :p

I really hope I don't end up regretting my Fifa WC purchase. My problem is that I love football games, I do hope there is enough (even the slightest improvements) to warrant me getting it.

[[EDIT]] Its to late anyway, my colleague has just text to say its arrived at work.
