***The Official Fifa 10 Thread***

I bought 10 for the manager mode, but upon reading how games can be ruined by bugs that leave you millions/billions in debt I never even touched this game mode and solely played online.

It's difficult to explain if you haven't had it happen but the way the game influences your team was too noticeable for me. Imean one game as Chelsea they can pass around like the real Chelsea do, the next match or even late rin the same game they cannot even make a straight pass to a team mate two yards away! They end up playing like a league 2 team.

I agree with the Manager Mode thing, it's absolutely rubbish and to get a few of the trophies for it I shamelessly cheated. It really needs a revamp next year, a complete overhaul from top to bottom as it feels really shallow and although I haven't experienced the game breaking bugs I do know they exist for a lot of people. It should be the main focus of the game, the main single player mode but they seem to be concentrating too much on the be a pro type aspects at the moment, which I don't agree with.

Also, that online bug that you get, I've had that as well, one game my team can have perfect passing and the next they can't string 2 passes together, defenders seem slower, heading is crap etc. I don't know why, it just seems like one of those things. The same as the online games where one is extremely fast and the next game everything seems very slow, not lag, just a slow game speed as if the settings for the game have been switched to slow or something. Very annoying.

Well, from what Davey said and reading ALL of the reviews for the WC game (which are surprisingly quite good), I'm going out to get it shortly :D

Yeah it is good, just not enough to fork out £40. The cut scenes of the same 4 people start to chaff after the 2nd time around.

Good crowd atmosphere though. Some very subtle improvements over Fifa 10, just not quite enough to spend £40. Still, I am enjoying it.

Went into the purple store at lunch, really surprised they are pushing this at £40!

Just goes to show people will buy anything from EA, if this was IW people would be up in arms with boycotts everything. But becase it's Fifa/EA, it's fine.

I do agree with you, im a sucker for buying new games. I'll moan about the price but still buy it. I like my games too much too hang around and wait for the price to drop.

Ok, having got the game and played through a World Cup and a couple of online games, I am very impressed.

It's not a huge leap over FIFA10, but that isn't such a bad thing.

Some points first of all -

There are a good amount of gameplay improvements, I would be sat here for quite a while listing them all, but the main ones are as Davey said before -

  • General improvements to controlling the ball

  • The Goalkeepers are no longer superhuman, they are beaten a lot more easily, and seem better at rushing staying in goal etc

  • The ball physics have been altered, the ball moves quite a bit differently and shots tend to curl in a more realistic manner

  • The graphics are slightly improved, player shirts move more and the pitch looks FAR better than in FIFA10. The Football boots have been updated to most of the new ones which I liked :p and the players change them with kits etc, another nice touch.

  • Penalties as said, are hugely improved and are somewhat more difficult to score!

  • Commentators aren't really better, but a nice change as they are different

  • The World Cup atmosphere is captured very well and adds to the overall feel of the game well

  • Online play was lag free and there are quite a lot of online game modes that seem very interesting

If, like me, you've played FIFA10 to death and feel like a change, I wouldn't really hesistate (and glad I didn't) to spend £40 and get this, it will keep you entertained probably until FIFA11.

Any questions etc, please ask ;) :D

Just scan reading this I've read a few people say Skilled Dribbling was 'new'.

It was in Euro 08, Fifa 08, and I think it was possibly in RTTW: Germany.

They removed it for 09, and added it back in 10 as a 'new feature'.

In 09 you could do the jockeying as a defender but not as the attacker.

This is if you are reffering to skilled dribbling like they are, jockeying. And not just the tricks :p

I didn't mention dribbling, but the way the players react to the ball is generally just better, it could impact it.

I also forgot to mention, the physical presence of the players and referees is far better, you can't run through them anymore and actually get stopped if you try :p

How is it "abusing" it? Just because they aren't using the shoot button?!

No, because it's an even loopier/accurate lob which leaves your keeper no chance whatsoever. Normally if you bring your keeper out quickly enough he has a chance to parry a normal lob from close range, if you double tap triangle and keep him on the line he won't come out as far and can run back and save it.

With the scoop lob though, if the keeper is close to the attacker he'd get lobbed since it arcs up quickly, if he's even a little bit off his line, which he will be even if you double tap triangle the ball falls just under the crossbar.

It's the fact that there's literally no way to prevent a goal whereas with the normal lob there is. I've foiled many attempted normal lobs by bringing the keeper out, making the opponent think I'm going to rush his attacker and then stopping my keeper, allowing for the ball to fall into my gk's hands.

I was playing FIFA WC game earlier and I think mine suffers from drop in frame rates or something. Every few minutes, the game will just freeze or slow down for a second or two. It's really annoying.

:(

It's harder to pull off than a normal chip shot though so swings and roundabouts.

Played the 360 version instore...not enough to warrant £40 for me. Dont agree on the extent of the "improvements" as well. Did penalties as well and its basically a gimmick.. Can't fault EA world cup presentation as thats what they're good at.

Those changes/tweaks to gameplay could have easily been done in an update! Or if that turns EA's stomach too much...even as a World Cup DLC add-on available from XBL and PSN. for ohh i dunno £5.

I can't imagine you played that much of it instore though?

I suppose it depends on how much you have played FIFA, it feels a considerably different game to me. I agree though, £20/30 would have been better for the masses.

well ive play a LOT of fifa 10 :D only played for about 15 mins on wc fifa instore. It'll all be in FIFA 11 come August anywayz. (the gameplay improvements)

Oh heres a suggestion for ea - it would be nice if the ANY player could have total control over their players i.e. so only they could use CIRCLE to get cpu players to press, and to get the goalie to rush out. At times ive seen the goalie rushing out when the play is around the halfway line lol.
