I've just bought 07 for a few quid, thinking of starting right at the bottom and seeing how far I get. Not played it since Champ man 2, played about 15 season and took Norwich to the zenith of European football.

What teams does everyone start with on here? Established Premiership sides, or do they ply their trade in the lowest divisions and build up from there?

Despite being a Man Utd supported I very rarely start a game as them, infact I don't think I have for at least the last 3 FM games (2006,2007,2008).

I generally start as a small side in the English Leagues, most of the time being Newport County in the Blue Square South, or Swansea in League 1.

I build them up to a stage where I've either felt I've taken them as far as I can or get an offer from a relatively big club.

My last game I took Swansea up to the Premiership and got to the point where I won the Premiership 3 years in a row (I think, read my earlier posts) and won every compitition I entered in one year (Premier League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, Charity Shield, FAW Cup, Champions League).

This time I started as Newport and took them into League 2 and got about 15-20 points clear at the top in January before getting a good offer from Stuttgart.

I joined them instantly and took them from almost being relegated to 8th place... thankfully Newport held onto the lead I gave them and they got promoted too :)

After almost 3 seasons with Stuttgart I've got the best defence in the league, a good front line, and building my midfield up now.

The signings I brought in during the January transfer window were both Cup Tied in Europe, which has hindered my efforts a bit.

I need 4 points from 7 games to clinch the title (my first in Germany!), I've got Schalke in the German Cup final, which I didn't expect... I now fully expect to walk away with that Cup as well as even though they're in 4th place I really don't think they are at the same level as me or FC Bayern.

I also face Schalke in the Semi-Final of the UEFA Cup. The winner will face either Fiorentina or Lyon, who knocked out Man Utd and AC Milan respectively!

I now actually really believe that a domestic treble is on the cards, and a Quadruple is definately possible. I believe the team can easily hold their own against Fiorentina (11th in Serie A) but might struggle against Lyon (2nd League 1 Orange).

4 points from any of the remaining Bundesliga games and I win the title :D

Championie Championie Ole Ole Ole :D

I beat Gladbach and Bochum and I've done a domestic double :D

Next up is Schalke in the German Cup Final for a domestic treble :D

.... And I've just realised the time, 4:51... damn FM can eat away the hours... I've got work in four hours :o

Why not? Besides, United in my game look to be a spent force and whatever I say won't make any difference to them now. Strangely enough it's the turn of Man City and Bolton to be top of the table now. My ingame United fans are probably getting more than enough abuse from their Manc neighbours to be worried about some two-bit non league manager. :D

Now I could start bashing Liverpool, the trouble with that is my utter loathing for them in real life would mean I'd never get to play another match as I'd be too busy spamming remarks to the media about them. My own board and players would probably start thinking I was acting unprofessionally too, and I don't need that while I'm challenging the mighty Rochdale for the Blue Square Premier. My bank balance is already worrying me and I don't need stroppy players adding to my grief.

Anyhoo I've a third round FA Cup replay against MK Dons to worry about next. I've got the home advantage, but Grant Holt is still injured and my defence, which has never been that great, is concerning both me and my assistant manager, Dennis Bergkamp.

Always start at Exeter and try taking them to premiership glory.

Looking forward to starting in L2 on FM09

If a manager is listed as being insecure under the job security section you can declare an interest in their job. Just go to their team and the option is under manager comment in the bottom left.

Be careful though as it'll upset your board and you could end up getting sacked yourself :)

ok thanks, is there anyway of finding which clubs have a manger that is insecure cos i have not found any yet :( i keep winning the leauge with PSG but never get any other jobs - really wanna move on!

There is an available jobs section, lists the financial security of the club as well as the manager.

I'll load FM up now and find it. :)

Edit: Yeah click on Manager at the top, then Jobs. On the next screen look to your left or right menu and change it from Job Centre to Job Security. You then get a list of managers from the leagues your game is running, their job security and finances. :)

There's two jobs sections really, one that shows you the available jobs with the money available (i.e. rich, secure) and the job status (secure, insecure, very insecure etc)

The ones that are insecure or lower you can apply for, simply click on the team and it's found in the bottom left of the screen.

You have a small filter available to show you ones in only certain countries, so if you only want to see jobs in England or France pick that country :)

The other is where you can advertise for jobs, advertise for new scouts/assistant managers/physios/coaches.

As said though, be forewarned that if you continually apply for jobs whilst you are in a good position at a club you may risk annoying the board and the fans.... and worst comes to worse the board may sack you as they don't think your committed to the club.

The Quadruple is complete :D

Beat Lyon 4-2 in the UEFA Cup, Schalke 2-1 in the German Cup, FC Bayern 4-1 in the League Cup and completed an undefeated domestic season.

No losses in the League or any domestic cup :D

My only defeats all season were against PSG and Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Nice going.

You seem to be doing really well considering the position they were in when you took over. Any chance of a team screenshot?

Just finished my first season in charge of Oxford United and managed to obtain promotion to League 2 at the first attempt. It was going to the wire, with us being 3 points clear of Aldershot with 3 games to play.

We beat Aldershot which barring a miracle meant we were champions, and then 2 more wins compared to their draw and loss meant we wont the title by 11 points. To make things sweater, they lost out in the play offs.

We then did the domestic double winning the FA Trophy in front of 35,000 at Wembley.

The League 2 season has started well with 3 wins and draw and a defeat, coupled with a 3-1 after extra time win over Birmingham in the 1st round of the League Cup, our reward, and 2nd round trip to Aston Villa.

I will keep you updated with our progress as and when I get some news.

just won the league for the 3rd time, in the CL final. really pleased with my goals for and only letting in 23 is pretty good. my free scoring defender ended up with 50 in 50
