Jeepo

Really sorry to hear about the scratch. Is it worth taking it to Samsung and discuss it. Thought it was supposed to be scratch resistant screen. Realize it is not Corning Gorilla Glass but still.... your scratch seems totally random and should not have happened. Suggest you raise a stink. Good luck.

Gorilla Glass is just a brand name for scratch/shatter resistant glass. The non branded glass tends to be the same sort of stuff.

I'd imagine there's probably a little more to it than that he just put it in a totally empty pocket and got a huge scratch on it. Have you seen the video of the guy abusing the screen with some car keys? That would have decimated the screen if it scratched easily - it doesn't.

@Robbo
I think Corning would politely disagree with your comment that its Gorilla Glass is the "same sort of stuff" as the non-branded shatter/scratch resistant glass. I include a link to the FAQs that might help:

It is interesting to note that Samsung includes Gorilla Glass on the SII and the Galaxy Tab but not on the GNex. Might have helped Jeppo if it were included.

Possible good news for all GNex owners:

Report in the French daily, Les Echo says that they expect Google Wallet to arrive in UK in first Quarter of 2012, ahead of the summer Olympics:

Use Google Translate if you need to. For those not familiar with Google Wallet, here is a link to its current use in the US:

Great news for us as our phone has the NFC chip (which is still subject to a refusal by Verizon to launch the GNex in the US with Google Wallet because of its competitive product coming in 2012, Isis).

I don't care what they say, it's the same sort of stuff. :)

Gorilla Glass can be scratched by very trivial things as well, I've seen it plenty.

Agree on both.
Gorilla glass is just a product name. It's hardened glass. Just like what the GN has.
Now it may be different in minor ways, but when it comes down to it, gorilla glass IS just hardened glass.

Well of course they will say theirs is better than the competition.

@Robbo and @BoomAM

Please let me know if you hold the same view after reading this link and in particular playing the embedded 2 minute Vimeo video with the Gorilla glass v strengthened glass demo. I believe that if the GNex had Gorilla Glass (which it does not) Jeppo would not have had the problem. Enjoy the video.

@anyon
Whether Gorilla Glass is the best option available today or not (and I have seen nothing that beats it), I suggest that poor old Jeepo (above) would have been unlikely to have scratched his GNex glass if Gorilla Glass was used!

Yeah I have seen the video, hence why I am so perplexed. And a little angry, more at myself than anything, but still I don't understand it. I will find a camera tomorrow and try and get the light to shine to show it. I just don't understand it at all. Totally totally empty pocket. I have always, for years, put the phone in its own pocket and wallet in the other. So to pull it out looking like that....My initial irrational reaction was:

"Who the f*ck has had my phone"

But then I though about it, and had driven to work. Kinda hard for someone to borrow it when in my pocket alone in the car! :)

Will try toothpaste tomorrow, if that doesn't work I might try to phone o2. I have 2 choices. Be honest and most likely get nowhere, or lie and say I have a fault somewhere and see if they change it. I have never done the latter before and would be a bit apprehensive, but open to suggestions.

And yes, an amazon case will be getting ordered tomorrow either way.

Hi guys

Can anyone tell me if the new improved re designed gallery app for ice cream sandwich finally lets you create album folders within album folders. I've already been to our local carphone warehouse, phones4u and neither had working phones to play around with.

cheers :)

That doesn't matter.

I know people with Gorilla Glass phones who have had large scratches by allegedly 'putting their phone into a load of cotton wool' or similar :p

I also know people whose screens have shattered after a single fairly low drop with a Gorilla Glass screen - it comes down to luck.

Gorilla Glass is just a branded version of hardened glass, obviously there is some terrible 'hardened' glass and there is some that is just as good as Gorilla Glass. By all counts the Nexus glass seems to be just as good as Gorilla Glass, there are plenty of people abusing the screen only for it to remain totally unmarked, do you think 'putting it in a pocket' is worse than trying to scratch it with a load of keys quite aggressively? No.

Ive never seen the feature. I have pics within folders within folders, but the gallery app just shows them all as seperate top level albums.
Would be handy if it could though.

i don't care what glass it has, if you stick it in a pocket with stuff in it or drop it from any heigh you run the risk of damage, when you drop a phone from waist height its all about luck in damage terms :D

No scratch on my GN yet after three weeks of ownership, BUT, I managed to scratch my iPhone 4 (which had Gorilla Glass) on its first day. It was caused by the small metal stud on my jeans just above the pocket. I'm always extra careful now when putting any mobile into my pocket. Damn studs.

Well I can't get a decent camera to take a picture. But I tried to use toothpaste, minty fresh now and the scratch is less prominent. Still there and annoying but I guess I can live with it. Now to find a good case.......

Suggestions?

I could get a screen protector but I usually hate those. Or a sock thing. Or a case with a flap.

Finally, would it be worth ringing o2 with some story to try for a different one?
