***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

This seems to explain it. I tried again this morning same issue but it is only with that specific folder. I can copy stuff into Ringtones or Notifications no problem. So it is a bug and not a duff phone by the look of it. One thing I did notice is if you get it to hang, crash or whatever you must unplug the USB cable and replug before it will let you do anything else.

If you click on the Google help forum link it seems many have this issue. How do I enable USB debugging mode?

yeah i knew mine was not faulty as i could access it on a xp laptop and save and remove files via 'airdriod' i think off hand debugging is under developer options

I've just downloaded AirDroid app and used that instead, works fine. Nice and easy too for sitting here replying to text messages. No fix yet then to the problem by Google/Samsung?

4.0.2 (ICL53F) is on its way and some people in the EU have already received it.

The stock factory images for both WW&US GN phones have been updated on the Google support site:

The changelog appears to be:

Optimized Mobile Hotspot when used with VPN.
Optimized 3G/4G data sessions for faster response times.
Fixed an incorrect notification that “data was disconnected due to roaming”.
Wi-Fi now automatically reconnects when returning to a known Access Point.
Improvements to special visual effects feature when using front-facing camcorder.
Visual improvements to the lock screen.
Email & messaging
Fixed an issue where some email attachments would not open correctly.
Apps & Widgets
DivX support has been removed, and will be supported in a future upgrade.

I spoke too soon about AirDroid and the pictures. Using Astro I can see the 2 I added in the folder. Plug the Nexus into the PC via USB and the files don't show. Can't select the photos to add to contacts either, they don't show in Gallery, do show with Astro but force close if you try to select it.

So if I wanted to plug this bad boy into a TV what is the cable I need? Prefer an Amazon link if I can get one then I can order and have it before Xmas! I will probably get a dock at a later time.

Whoops.....I have 4% battery to last me 2 and a half hours till I get home.....think I used it too much today.

Think I am going to have to get some spare USB cables so I can charge it at work. Also can anoyone recommend a good usb powerpack charger for it?

I honestly can't say how disappointed I am with the camera on this phone; coming from a Galaxy SII.

Of course I was aware that this was most likely going to be the case, but today was a great example of just how bad it is in comparison.

Part of my job entails me going into grocery retailers and doing store visits, looking at what's going on in the trade in terms of pricing and promotions amongst other things and I take a fair few photos when doing this. I usually upload photos to a central location for my work colleagues to look at and use in their customer presentations.

I took 95 pictures last time with my Galaxy SII and some of my work colleagues thought I had taken them with my Nikon D40, they were that good; and usually stores have very good lighting.

Today I struggled to get pictures that weren't blurry, despite handling the phone with much concentration and even holding my breath to minimise any shaking/noise.

Hmm, I've taken pictures in grocery retailers and they look pretty good. Have you check something isn't wrong in the settings? Things are on auto or fluorescent or whatever?

since putting the battery in the back cover doesn't fit perfectly, on my phone at least there's a slight raised area on the cover as if it hasn't been clicked in (it has!)

This doesn't sound right. Can you see what's causing this?

Oh! mekrel gone from the GS 2 to the GN

Didn't think that would happen! :p

What do you think of it overall compared to the GS 2 for speed, smoothness etc.

i know the camera is not as good for sure

I received the notification this morning, but when I tried to install it, I just got the Android/exclamation mark graphic.

Had to battery pull to get out. Now when I check for updates, I get zilch. Very strange.

I've had it quite a while, unfortunately my gadget obsession that I think all men are born with meant I had to get it.

In summary, it's a great phone because as a complete package; it's a joy to use. This is mainly down to Ice Cream Sandwich though as obviously, the hardware certainly isn't top notch in every area.

My main concerns when buying the device were amount of storage with lack of memory card, camera ability and speed of the GPU. Thankfully, the GPU really does appear to hold its own, Shadowgun plays very smoothly at 720p resolution when I found a relief and very surprising.

The storage is an issue for me personally as I like to carry all my music around and I probably have about 14Gb of the stuff. I was really relying on Google Music cloud storage and 3's unlimited data to be a work around, but unfortunately, Google Music ended up being US only launch. I've tried Tor Browser to fool Music beta site into signing up but Google know's my account is an English one and I really can't be bothered with having two accounts and setting up a US one through Tor.

Personally, I've always HATED stock Android which is why I've always insisted on manufacturer overlays because they added a lot of functions that stock Android just didn't have. I can now say that I think Ice Cream Sandwich is brilliant, functions really well and looks great to boot. There's still the obvious omissions from Google, such as T9 dialer but for the most part; it's just the universal polished UI that Android needed.

The new Google applications are so fantastic, especially Gmail, YouTube, Maps and Calendar. As well as looking great, the system on a whole is very fast with the only slow down coming from the transition from home screen to app drawer and visa versa. Web browsing deserves a special mention, it's smooth and so feature packed with the ability to sync bookmarks etc with Chrome Desktop; finally!

The smoothness of it really highlights how much a good job Samsung did with TouchWiz and Gingerbread on the SII, the Galaxy Nexus browsing is just as smooth but without the downside of non-dithered 16bit images that you get on the SII. At first the SII browser did seem quicker still, but from what I can tell, the GSII has scrolling acceleration which is very sensitive. I.e. it will increase the velocity at which the browser scrolls, the faster you "fling" your finger up the screen. The Nexus isn't so aggressive with it, but it's still very smooth and I've yet to experience any "chequerboard" effect.

Basically, if the camera quality isn't critical for the consumer and the lack of expandable memory isn't an issue; then it's hard not to sing this phone's praises.

I'm actually looking forward to a CyanogenMod release, they may add some of the missing things such as T9 dialer. Previously I didn't like CyanogenMod by nature that it was based on stock Android UI, which prior to ICS; I hated.

I hope the Galaxy SII users get a 100% working ASOP release, as apart from the screen resolution; the Galaxy SII will be a formidable phone with ICS. Well, as long as the camera quality remains the same with an AOSP ROM as it did with 2.3x TouchWiz ROMs.

Reason why I hope that is because I've seen the TouchWiz version briefly demonstrated here and if I was still a GSII user, I would be disappointed if this was what I was waiting for. Looks like they've taken Android 4.0 and made it look exactly like the Gingerbread TouchWiz ROMs...

The ability to install an ASOP ROM that's fully working, will be a major influence in my future handset choices now. I really think Ice Cream Sandwich is that good, so it will just come down to hardware and the ability to run an ASOP rom.

So there are loads of MHL cables. Thinking of picking up a spare charger as well, has anyone seen one of those around? I am sure a SGS2 charger would work right?

Anyway to change the text replies when u get a phone?

Dialler/Contacts>Settings>Quick responses

Edit: I don't have 4.02 yet but it seems 4.03 will follow very soon after:

Some of the new APIs in Android 4.0.3 include:

Social stream API in Contacts provider: Applications that use social stream data such as status updates and check-ins can now sync that data with each of the user’s contacts, providing items in a stream along with photos for each. This new API lets apps show users what the people they know are doing or saying, in addition to their photos and contact information.

Calendar provider enhancements. Apps can now add color to events, for easier tracking, and new attendee types and states are now available.

New camera capabilities. Apps can now check and manage video stabilization and use QVGA resolution profiles where needed.

Accessibility refinements. Improved content access for screen readers and new status and error reporting for text-to-speech engines.

Incremental improvements in graphics, database, spell-checking, Bluetooth, and more.
