***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

Comparing it to the iPad 2 is silly, the iPad 2 has a vastly more powerful GPU than anything else out there.

By all accounts, the GPU in the Nexus is coping with ease in every test it's had so far, which is all that matters I suppose. Clock speeds are probably down in order to save more battery.

The GPU is such a non issue, I haven't encountered anything that required it to be more powerful.

At the end of the day, its marketed at phone not a gaming device.

Well it's a competing GPU, used in the 4S. I just didn't have experience of the 4S.

Yep, can only be battery saving or the chips requiring higher volts than previously assumed at 384mhz. How many times have we seen the that on graphics cards.

However, again the idea that it is currently adequate can be shown to be wrong (if you require 30+ fps) and secondly this is flawed logic to apply to a phone which you use for at least a year.

Note resolution is different in tests below (but you could argue that's simply the end user experience?? although I wouldnt argue that)

The gpu is a tangible advantage for the sgs2 and 4s and shouldn't be dismissed so casually. Especially now that we may find the performance gain from ~200mhz clocked hummingbird phones isn't as large as previously assumed.

I disagree. These high end phones are very much marketed as multipurpose devices including gaming.

I cant see why anyone would want to game on a phone they all look crap, only game i played is angry birds briefly.

The most important thing on a phone is for me, does it work well as a phone, having a great crisp screen and a slick OP system and the Nexus ticks all the boxes.

if i get a sgnexus from vodafone ,will i be able to get all the updates straight away or not

this is the only issue holding me back ,i'd rather deal with vodafone than p4y or the other outlets , but the updates thing is making me worry ,i want pure google phone not any crapware on it

has anyone got theirs direct from vodafone that can tell the difference ?
thanks

Mines direct from VF. No junk on it. Getting the updates within days of announcements. All nexus phones are like that though i think, as they are 'google experiance' phones.

I spoke too soon about AirDroid and the pictures. Using Astro I can see the 2 I added in the folder. Plug the Nexus into the PC via USB and the files don't show. Can't select the photos to add to contacts either, they don't show in Gallery, do show with Astro but force close if you try to select it.

More playing about today and found that you have to use Google Chrome with AirDroid rather than IE and it then works fine. Read elsewhere that you should also use the Samsung supplied lead, not so sure that it makes any difference about that. A bit happier now that I can update my other contact photos.:)

Although AirDroid works really well, I've found the transfer times to be crazy. Took me around 40 mins to transfer a 500mb .avi. Is that somehow expected?

Would be nice to confirm if its just my net connection or...?

Have GNex direct from Voda and get updates direct from Google as it is a Google Experience phone as stated above. Google seems to have taken a step backwards with Verizon. As AndyCR15 says, the branding on the GNex LTE (4G phone) in the US has Verizon and Samsung on the rear, not Google. Further Verizon has managed to install some bloatware on the screen. Further, the LTE phone was launched without Google Wallet featured, although XDA Developers have hacked it to run Google Wallet anyway! And hacking eliminates the Verizon bloatware too. Makes you think Google believes it needs Verizon more than the other way around! Hard to figure when the phone is clearly in big demand and most buyers know it is a Google Experience phone in the US and will receive updates direct from Google.
